9 The Clan Council No wagon could hold all of the clan council members, so meetings took place in a special tent of plain white canvas, bearing none of the colourful, intricate patterns the Freefolk usually favoured. Four guards circled it at a respectful distance to ensure no one listened in on the deliberations. One of them trotted over as Amlinn approached, but upon recognizing her, motioned her forward. Just as she put her hand on the tent flap, the unmistakable howl of a Nightdweller tore through the night. She paused as two more howls echoed the first. She glanced around, reassuring herself that the Fence shimmered blue in every direction. Then she entered.
