Clash of Genes

I stood in place as Drake bared his fangs at Daisy and hissed. He hissed!      "Tell me why I had to knock down the door to get to my bleeding mate? In fact, tell me why she was bleeding in the first place" Hmmm?" A shiver went down my spine when he said mate.       Daisy straightened herself out before she answered, "You people kept her locked inside an apartment. I thought it would bring her some joy to have some fresh air. You just knocked the door down because you're dramatic. Ever heard of knocking and someone opens the door? Better yet, you have a key!"      "Yes, so she could adjust and have a few moments alone, instead of getting all of this shoved down her throat, all at once!" Drake stated in his deep calm voice. Something tells me he is not really calm. The vibe I'm getting from him? It made the whole atmosphere shoot with electricity. He took a step forward toward Daisy, "Now tell me why my mate is bleeding?" Shiver again. My insides were jumpy with butterflies. His intense gaze turned back to me, looking concerned.      "Are you cold?" His glare for Daisy turned into a gentle gaze for me. Concern haunted his features.      I shook my head and answered, "No, I'm fine," then slid in a "thank you" behind it.      He separated the distance between us, (again) cupped my face with his hands, and tilted my head back so I was looking up into his deep stormy grey eyes. "You are my mate," he said gently. "It is my duty to make sure you are as comfortable as the situation allows, and that you are never in need."     My insides gushed as this stranger, hot stranger but stranger none the less, melted my heart with his words. I didn't know what to say, but thank God for Daisy, I didn't have to say anything.      Daisy shrieked out, "Did you just say duty?" She fell into a fit of giggles and laughs.      Drake turned toward her. "Do you want to tell me why my mate was bleeding?" My heart pace quickened when he said mate for the third time.     Stupidly, oh so damn stupidly, I pointed out, "My name is Crystal."     He flashed me a grin. Oh Lordy, the man, uh, vampire had dimples. The guy had dimples. "Babe, I know your name, I know everything there is to know and a little bit more." He winked at me. My legs turned to jelly and I stayed in place, sure that if I moved, I'd face plant on the ground.      I smiled ever so shyly, because I couldn't help the way I smiled, because the dude was hot, and because I'm a shy person. Just not with the Sutton brunch, because they have made it very clear to me that I will be seeing them often. I told him the information that he has been asking Daisy the past few minutes.      "I cut my finger when I went to touch my teeth."      Drake became tense. I only noticed because one of his hands still cupped my cheek and I felt it go rigid. His eyes went directly to my mouth. Daisy stood straight from her bent laughing, slapping her knee position. She walked to stand right by Drake.      "Aren't they fascinating? She has a double set. I have never heard of this."     Drake bent forward, still studying my teeth. Curiosity may be a b***h, but it is also my constant companion. I pulled out my phone and opened my frontal camera. I blocked their view of my mouth but received one of my own.      I felt my eyes go wide in panic. My heartbeat raced. My skin prickled. All at once, they occurred when I saw what was so "fascinating" to Daisy. My canines grew out about an inch, but I no longer had one set of canines. I had two. I looked at the ends and whimpered as I remembered the pain that soared through my finger when I went for a feel. I looked at the bottom set of my teeth and gasped. They did not grow, if they did, then I didn't notice because I don't spend every moment measuring my teeth. The points and edges looked sharp though.     I pleaded with my mind, thinking and imagining the canines will retract. They disappeared a second after I thought it, and I raised my panic gaze to Daisy.      She looked at my mouth with wonder. I switched my gaze to Drake, and he was assessing me. I felt like a science experiment. It remained like this for long moments until Daisy said, "I think we should go to Dad. He'll know for sure what's up with double fangs."      Drake snarled when he said, "No. Not today." He gentled his tone when he looked at me. "Your mom is a dominant she-wolf. Your father is a very powerful vampire." Drake sniffed in the air; his noise angled at me. "And you are a clash of genes."
