Episode 10

Lucas froze in place. He surely hadn't heard his daughter correctly. This Gamma, Alpha Gabriel Ballad's Gamma, was his daughter's mate? Lucas saw red. Surely the Moon Goddess wouldn't be so cruel to give his daughter someone as lowly as a Gamma for a mate? Lucas spun round, ready to refuse this match, but one look at Alice's face and his heart softened. She was staring at the injured man with so much care and concern on her face. "Take him to the Dungeons," Lucas whispered, and the warriors began to walk in the opposite direction. Alice grabbed hold of Max's hand as they passed by and went with them. Lucas walked behind slowly, his eyes downcast. Gabriel made to follow them, but Lucas blocked his way at the door. "I'm afraid I can't permit you to go any further," Lucas said, holding his hands up. Gabriel's eyes narrowed and he didn't hold Shadow back from the growl he emitted at the disrespect. "Permit me?" Gabriel snarled. "That is my Gamma in there." He gestured at the now closing door, his hand clenching into a fist soon after. "I'll be damned if I'm letting you take him out of my sight in his condition!" Alpha Lucas bristled at Gabriel's words, his tone of voice was clearly not to be messed with. But he squared his shoulders. He was an Alpha too and he would not back down. His greatest secret and the key to his pack's safety was held down in the dungeon. He wasn't about to let that be seen to any outsiders, if he could help it. He wouldn't have let this Gamma down there, if it wasn't for Alice. So Lucas did what he had to, he stepped up to Alpha Gabriel and snarled, "This is my pack and my rules!" He was not prepared for what happened next. * * * Alice clutched her Mate's hand as they walked through the dungeon, unable to take her eyes off of his face. He was gorgeous. Through the tears in his clothes, under the blood and the wounds, she could see tight muscles. His soft chestnut brown hair was mussed up, some of it caked with blood and stuck to his forehead. Alice moved her hand to wipe it away, leaving a blood smear behind. "You're going to be fine," Alice whispered, not knowing whether her mate could hear her. "It's going to be alright. Sirona will help. I know she will." They stopped outside the cell and one of the warrior's gestured at the guard to open the door. The guard did so, but said over his shoulder "please wait here for a moment." Alice's head snapped upwards. "Don't," she cried out, startling many of her companions. The guard's head spun round to face her. "Don't restrain her, please!" The warrior's exchanged glances. The guard was visibly nervous. Even in the shadows, Alice could see his skin had paled. "But.... but... but ... Miss Alice...." The guard stammered, taking a tentative step towards her. Alice just held up her hand. "I don't care what the policy or protocol say," she said, standing her ground. "Sirona is not a monster, or a threat. She doesn't need to be restrained to heal anyone. I believe it hurts her less if she is not forced and I do NOT believe in forcing anyone in our Pack to do something they do NOT want to do." She turned to face each one of them, a sly smile on her face. "Although... if they deserved it by ignoring my orders..." The guard stepped back, swinging the door wide open and moving aside to let the warriors and the stretcher through. Alice almost giggled. She knew how it looked. She was barely 5 foot 6, but she could stand her ground in front of all these warriors, some of whom towered over 6 foot and make them do her bidding. "It's the Alpha blood in us," Kira said proudly. Alice just let the giggle out in her mind, before striding into the cell after her mate. * * * “Sirona is not a monster..." The words echoed through Sirona's mind, over and over. She couldn't believe it. Someone, finally someone, was standing up for her. Treating her like a person, like an actual, real living thing rather than an object. It made her heart swell and tears pricked at her eyes. For the first time, in so many years, someone had shown her some kindness. After all the people she had healed, all the lives she had improved and in some cases, saved, someone had finally shown her a little shred of respect. She watched the injured man be carried in from her spot on the floor. The warriors placed him down gently in front of her. Sirona leaned forward, only to freeze when one of the warrior's growled at her. She quickly leaned back, eyes wide. What did they think she was going to do? Attack someone? "What would be the point in attacking someone who has clearly already been attacked?" Briar snarked. "They all fear the unknown," Sirona answered, even though she knew her wolf's question was rhetorical. "You can see it in their eyes. They don't know, therefore they fear." Sirona reached her arm out, slowly. The Warriors still flinched backwards. "Oh, stop it! All of you!" Alice snorted as she walked into the cell. "She isn't going to hurt you. She is reaching for him!" Alice gestured down at Max, a loving look covering her face. She knelt beside him and took his hand in both of hers, before turning her face up to Sirona. "Help him, please," she whispered gently. "Please help him, Sirona." Sirona swallowed and reached her hands out towards the stretcher. She kept her movements steady, not wanting to cause a reaction in the warriors who were already on edge. Placing her hands onto the man's skin, she felt his blood beneath her fingers, sticky and warm. The feel almost made her shudder, but she remained still, feeling down into her power. And began to heal him.
