Chapter 10 - Olivia

757 Words
"Next," mumbles the woman behind the counter in the secretariat. I approach the said piece of furniture and stretch my head over. There sits a dark-haired woman chewing on her pink gum like hell. "Hey, I'm Olivia Gomez," I start, trying to ignore her bored look, "Today is my first day of school and my grandma said I should go to the secretariat, so here I am ..." "If interested? "She says bored and then points to a door to the left of here:" In there. " I sigh and then make my way to the door. But before I knock, I still mutter a soft "Thank you". But when nothing comes back, I enter the office and then close the door behind me. "Ah, you have to be the new guy announced for today," says a man who has positioned himself behind the desk. "Yes, I am Olivia Gomez," I reveal my identity for the second time that day. "Sit down," the man offers me and I follow this offer. "What do you teach?" I ask carefully and directly. If he teaches math, I'd better get on with him from the start. "The director," he gives me a charming smile. Shocked, I stare at the man, do not know what to say. When he sees this, he begins to laugh. Then I look only dumbfounded. "It was just a joke, I'm the trust teacher." For a few seconds, I just stare at him. This guy is really too good-humored to be a teacher. "I'm sorry, that was not funny," he raises his hands defensively. I roll my eyes, "So, what do I need to know to get to class?" He opens a drawer at his desk and takes out a pile of paper. "That's all for me?", I sound incredibly dissatisfied. "Yes," he pushes the paper over to me: "Read through only the most important things." "And what are the most important things?", I flick thumbs through the paper and try at first glance to see something that might be important. He narrows his eyes and thinks, "The first three, the first is the timetable, which includes a list of materials your grandma already has, and last but not least a leaflet with all the events coming up this school year, and even more some other information." I bite my lip and take the plan off the shelf first. If it's terrible, the first year of school can not be good here. The timetable has always been the deciding factor. Quickly I skim over the paper and realize that it is not so bad. Although there are a few subjects that I can not stand, but they are always there. I like most of the subjects, which is definitely a good sign. The only thing I do not like is Tuesday, which seems to be loaded with silly subjects. But you can overlook that. So I put the plan away and turn to the other papers. In fact, Grandma has really gotten the stuff on the list, and the events are not that interesting to me anyway. After all, I do not really feel like participating in some weird festivities in this weird city. Although I was not totally against coming here, but I really do not need that. I came here just for my family and not for more. "Was that it?", As soon as I read the most important things, I raise my head. "If you have no more questions, you're welcome to go to physics lessons," he points to the little box on the map labeled 'physics'. "Then I have a question," I say quickly, since physics is definitely one of the lousy subjects. "Just out with it," he gives me a friendly smile. "Can I wait until the break?", I'll try it at least. "No, I'm a teacher of confidence, but that does not mean that I help you with tails," he crossed his arms over his chest. "Pity, but understandable", I bite my lip: "But then I still have a second question." "You can ask her if it has nothing to do with tails," he limits my selection of questions. "Where is the physics room?", I lift myself from my place and pack the papers. "Room 2.12", he waves goodbye to me as I leave the room. I leave not only the room of the trusted teacher, who happens to be kind of nice, but also the secretariat and make more or less purposeful on the way to the aforementioned space.
