Chapter 15 Phillip lay hoping to drift off when Gary’s breathing smoothed out, but he only dozed, waking sometime later and wondering over the time, whether dawn was moments away or hours. The room seemed too dark for much time to have passed. Closing his eyes gave him another few moments of peace. When he next looked, the sky outside appeared no brighter. Easing away, Phillip lifted his head until he was able to look beyond Gary to the clock on the bedside table—barely two in the morning. He could have sworn ten hours had passed when he’d only been struggling to sleep for less than three. He stood and stared down at Gary’s sleeping form.
