Chapter 5 – Cross-Eyed Boy Chapter 5 – Cross-Eyed BoyI’m Flint Flanders and everybody says I can’t steer clear of trouble. I guess they’re right because today was the second day of school, and I landed in the principal’s office all because of a girl. Candy Shirtz stole my heart last year in fifth grade. Although she lives just down the road, I hadn’t seen her all summer. As soon as school was over in May, Ma farmed me out to the relatives in Pickford who needed help with haying and other farm chores. I’m a good worker and earned enough money to buy two new sets of school clothes, one pair of white Keds, a blue three-ring notebook, a dozen No. 2 yellow pencils, a small Webster’s Pocket Dictionary, and a plastic protractor. I don’t know how to use a protractor, but I liked the name of it.
