If you don’t hurry up, this old January thaw will turn our rink to mush. Flint and Johnny are already skatin’ so let’s go. Goodbye, everybody.” Blew never speaks in a normal voice. He yells at the top of his lungs. I pull on my snow pants and boots, zip my jacket, gather my mittens, hat, and scarf, and take my skates from the hook behind the woodstove.
