Chapter 3: The Grind Begins With Blood in the Wind
Valencia was washed clean by rain the previous night, but Kairo was not washed clean of hunger. It beat in his breast like a second heart.
He was awake before the sun had thought of rising. He crept through the dark kitchen like a shadow, wolfed two slices of toast, and went off to the pitch with the tread of his footsteps scarcely audible.
6:13 a.m.
The pitch lay open in front of him, dew still on the synthetic grass like a prayer no one believed in any more. Kairo was on the sideline, took off his hoodie, and mumbled, System.
The transparent interface flashed into life with the arrogance of a god.
Then a voice: cool, neutral, smug.
[The host need not speak aloud. You may communicate mentally to avoid being mistaken for a lunatic.]
Kairo thought to himself, a little creepy that you are in my head. “And calling you ‘System’ all the time sounds like I'm roleplaying a calculator. It is time to change that. Now you are Max.”
The voice changed--it was deeper now, warmer, as though it belonged to a person who used to read bedtime stories and then disappeared without bidding farewell.
[Understood. Voice protocol adjusted.]
Kairo paused. “That voice. That... that was my father, was it not?”
[The voice was retrieved from a deep memory imprint. You may reject it.]
No, Kairo said, a c***k in his composure barely held together by sarcasm, keep it. I prefer ghosts to assist my passing drills.”
[Noted.]
Kairo mopped his palms on his shorts. So, Max, what is my best position?
[Based on your current stats: high speed, decent crossing, fair vision—you are flexible. You could evolve into a wing-forward, or shift inward as an attacking midfielder.]
“Versatility, huh?”
[Modern teams favor multi-role players. A strength will be flexibility. I recommend developing both roles.]
Cool, said Kairo. “How?”
[Training begins now. You will complete a structured hybrid program. Each task enhances specific traits. You will also earn legend points, consumables, and stat boosts. This beginner bonus expires in one week. Use it or stay mediocre.]
A glowing blue panel appeared midair, data humming across it like sacred scripture.

Kairo narrowed his eyes as he read.
“This isn’t just training,” he murmured, “this is evolution under pressure.”
[Correct. There are only two weeks left until the Youth League begins. Your window for redemption is narrowing. Train like the world ends tomorrow.]
Kairo cracked his knuckles. The field was his church. The system was his god. And he—he was the f*****g apostle.
He started sprinting.
