Chapter 9: Emergency

1568 Words
Wherever Maria's gaze landed, she saw Emma lying on the bed, her clothes disheveled, motionless. Her body twitched from time to time. Blood flowed down her thighs, staining the pristine white sheets in a mess. There was a faint smell of blood in the air. Maria's eyes instantly welled up with tears. She quickly found a towel to clean Emma's body and took clean clothes from the wardrobe to change her. Sobbing, she asked, "Madam, are you alright?" After a long time, Emma woke up from a coma. Her once radiant and beautiful face was like a withered flower, devoid of any luster. Subconsciously, she touched her abdomen with pale lips murmuring, "Baby, save my baby..." "Madam, don't be upset. The baby will be fine. I'll inform Mr. Scott immediately." Maria wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, turned around, and quickly ran to the corridor to call Henry. D-Don't call him! Emma tried to stop Maria's action, but Maria was too fast, too fast for her to intercept. She heard the sound of the phone connecting in her ear, along with Maria's serious report. Emma's hand weakly fell under the bed, and a bitter smile of resignation appeared on her lips. Henry wished the baby in her belly would disappear soon. How could he possibly extend a helping hand at this moment? Forget it, it was all fate! Destined that she and this baby have no connection! ... Maria stood in the corridor, anxiously dialing Henry's phone number. After waiting for about ten minutes, she heard the man's low and indifferent voice on the other end, "What's the matter?" "Mr. Scott, please help Mrs. Scott. S-She's bleeding heavily." Henry sat in the CEO's office, just opening the door to go to the conference room to preside over the senior management meeting. After hearing Maria's report, he clenched the doorknob tightly. Quickly realizing his unusual reaction, he slowly released his fingers. When he opened his mouth again, he regained his usual indifference, "No need to rush to the hospital. Get Doctor Smith to see her." Maria held the phone, hesitated for a moment, and gathered her courage to ask, "Doctor Smith, is that okay?" Doctor Smith was the Scott family's family doctor, said to have graduated from a top medical university in the world, with superb medical skills. But after all, he wasn't a specialized gynecologist... Maria felt uneasy in her heart. "Just do it!" Henry angrily hung up the phone. In the end, Maria couldn't resist Henry's decision and called Doctor Smith to come over. Doctor Smith arrived quickly. It usually took half an hour by car, but this time he arrived at the villa gate in less than fifteen minutes. Accompanying him was the hot-tempered Joseph. Doctor Smith was an old man in his fifties. Once he received Maria's call, he drove over. Unexpectedly, he was intercepted by Joseph on the way and forced to bring this unmanageable spoiled rich boy with him. Maria stood at the bedroom door, letting Doctor Smith, whom she knew, go in first. When it was Joseph's turn, she blocked his path with her hand, "Mrs. Scott is inside. Other men aren’t allowed to see her. I’m afraid you can’t go in, Mr. Alexander." "To hell with that rule! The person lying inside is my dear, not bullshit Mrs. Scott!" Once Joseph's fiery temper erupted, he disregarded all relationships. He kicked off Maria, who was blocking his way, and aggressively walked into the bedroom. Looking at the motionless woman lying in a pool of blood, he clenched his fists and fiercely smashed the bedside table. His eyes turned red as he shouted, "Emma, hold on! You promised me to go to Los Angeles together to find your other self and your dream... Don't sleep. Damn it, get up quickly!" Meanwhile, Doctor Smith had finished the full-body examination for Emma. With a serious face and a frown, he said, "Mrs. Scott's condition is critical. She must be taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. If delayed, the baby may not survive." "What the hell are you all waiting for? Hurry up and take Emma to the hospital!" Joseph didn't notice the worried expressions on Maria’s and Doctor Smith's faces. He rushed over and picked up Emma from the bed, then rushed out. When Maria and the others regained their senses, Emma had already been carefully placed in the back seat of Joseph's car, and they were speeding towards the city hospital. Maria's face turned pale with anxiety as she quickly and nervously reported the situation to Henry. "Damn it!" In the meeting room, in front of all the senior executives of the company, Henry, for the first time, disregarded his image and angrily smashed his expensive phone in his hand. Under the arrangement of Joseph, Emma was rushed into the emergency room by doctors who had been waiting for her. The heavy doors closed, leaving Joseph outside with a worried face. He quickly washed his face, then leaned against the white wall and waited motionlessly. As time passed, the red indicator lights kept flashing, causing Joseph's heart to be in turmoil. He felt as restless as a cat on a hot tin roof, growing increasingly anxious and uneasy. After an unknown amount of time, the doors of the emergency room finally opened, and Emma was pushed out on a stretcher by nurses and taken to the fifth-floor intensive care unit. Joseph hurriedly followed. He ran into the ICU and saw Emma lying lifelessly on the hospital bed. Her eyes tightly shut. Joseph felt like crying with a sourness in his heart. "Emma, wake up. Don't sleep. The baby, the baby..." Emma seemed to have slept deeply. In her hazy consciousness, she heard Joseph's murmurs. With a sudden jolt in her brain, she abruptly opened her eyes and instinctively touched her abdomen, choking back tears in her throat, "What happened to my baby? Joseph, tell me now, what happened to my baby?" Seeing her agitated state, Joseph almost reflexively concealed the truth and casually joked, "My godson is fine, he's staying well inside your belly." "Are you lying to me? Tell me the truth. I only want to hear the truth," Emma demanded. Joseph turned his head, looking around, and said, "Emma, I'm not lying to you. I'm telling you the absolute truth." Seeing that Joseph still refused to admit it, Emma got angry. Ignoring her weak and painful body, she suddenly sat up from the bed. Shaking his arms with her hands, she smiled sadly, "Joseph, every time you lie, you don’t dare to meet my eyes. I know you're lying. This time... my baby has truly left me!" After saying that, she sorrowfully buried her head in Joseph's arms, as if she had lost the whole world. Her disheveled hair covered her face as she cried loudly. She couldn’t care less about her appearance at this moment. "Don't cry, Emma. You’re the strongest woman in the world! As long as you want, I can give you a dozen of babies right away," Joseph gently patted her back, consoling her incoherently. ... Henry pushed open the door and walked in coldly. Seeing this heartwarming scene, a ridiculous sense of being the other man suddenly emerged within him, "Joseph, do the Alexander family have to go completely bankrupt before you remember that she’s my wife?" "Henry!" Seeing the culprit who had hurt Emma, Joseph instantly became furious. He wished he could rush over and tear Henry apart to vent his anger for Emma. "Joseph, you can be out for a while. I have something to say to him."   Emma pushed Joseph's arm, took a deep breath, slowly turned her head, then looked at Henry. She stared at him fixedly, lips curling into a pale mocking smile. "Fine, I'll listen to you! I'll be outside the door. If you need anything, call me and I’ll beat him to death." Joseph clenched his fists and punched the air a few times towards Henry before reluctantly leaving the ward. "Henry, the baby miscarried. Are you happy?" Emma smiled faintly, a bitter expression appearing on her pale face. Henry stood by her bedside, leaning down to gaze into her teary eyes. His bony fingers gently touched her pale face as his expression remained calm and indifferent, "It's not my baby that's gone, so of course I'm happy!" Knowing that he was heartless and indifferent towards her, Emma was still hurt deeply by his emotionless response. The intense pain made her tremble uncontrollably. She suddenly chuckled, tears streaming down her face as she laughed. "Henry, you're wrong. It is your baby, truly and completely yours!" "What do you mean?" The man had a frown on his handsome face. "Henry, if you're still a man, do another paternity test. The embryo of the baby is still in the emergency room. As long as you're willing, you can get the result immediately. You don't believe me, never believe a word I say! Now, your biological son is gone. Ha-ha, you deserve it!" In her impression, this was the first time Emma cried and laughed without any restraint in front of him. She looked disheveled and ugly. Henry impatiently frowned and said, "Emma, anyone has the right to have a baby with me, except you!" Leaving behind those heart-wrenching words, the man turned around and left without looking back.
