The next afternoon she sat down with Dottie. Alice thought she was the quickest of all the girls at Mrs Parker’s, and the most self-aware. She explained to Dottie what she was doing. She said that if what she wrote was published that Dottie should share in the fee.
“You mean my story might appear in a magazine?” Dottie exclaimed.
“It might,” said Alice.
“I don’t want no money,” Dottie said. “You’re the one who had to do all the work of writing it up.”
“Then perhaps you will allow me to treat you in some way,” Alice said.
