Bound to the Alpha â Chapter 7: The Awakening Within
The alarms did not stop.
They echoed through Ravencrest like a living warningâdeep, metallic, and endlessâreverberating off obsidian walls as storm clouds churned violently above the palace.
Aria stood in the center of her suite, breath uneven, staring at her wrist.
The mark was no longer just glowing.
It was reacting.
To everything.
To the palace.
To the storm.
To him.
Dante was still holding her wrist, his expression unreadableâbut his eyes had changed. Focused. Sharpened. Like he was listening to something no one else could hear.
âWhat is happening to me?â Aria whispered again, voice trembling now.
Dante didnât answer immediately.
That silence was worse than words.
Outside, thunder cracked violently. The window shimmeredâthen fractured slightly, thin lines spreading across the glass like veins.
âThe system is responding,â Dante finally said.
Aria swallowed hard. âSystem?â
His gaze flicked to her.
âRavencrest is not just a kingdom,â he said quietly. âIt is a seal.â
Her chest tightened. âA seal for what?â
Dante didnât answer.
And that told her everything.
A sudden knock shattered the tension.
Before Dante could respond, the door opened.
The stranger stepped in, no longer joking. His usual relaxed expression was gone, replaced with something sharper.
âBad timing?â he asked, glancing between them.
âAlways,â Aria muttered instinctively.
He almost smiledâbut didnât.
âThe eastern wing is collapsing,â he said. âNot physically. Energetically. The guards are saying the barrier lines are reacting to her mark.â
Aria stiffened. âMy mark is breaking your palace?â
âNot breaking,â Dante corrected.
He looked at her wrist again.
âAwakening it.â
That word made her stomach drop.
The stranger crossed his arms. âAlso, small issueâthree council members are on their way here right now, and they are not happy.â
Dante didnât look concerned.
âLet them come.â
Aria stared at him. âYouâre not worried?â
âI am,â he said simply.
A pause.
Then, quieter:
âBut not about them.â
The temperature in the room shifted again.
Cold.
Heavy.
Wrong.
Aria stepped back instinctively.
Her mark pulsed sharplyâonceâtwiceâ
Then everything went silent.
Not peaceful silence.
Empty silence.
Like the world had stopped listening.
Ariaâs breath caught.
ââŚDante?â she whispered.
He moved instantly.
âDo not resist it.â
âIâm not doing anything!â
âThat is the problem.â
The mark flared violently.
A shockwave of energy exploded outwardâ
Glass shattered.
The ceiling lights flickered out.
The storm outside stopped mid-motion, as if frozen in time.
Aria gasped, dropping to her knees.
And thenâ
Everything went black.
When she opened her eyes again, she was no longer in the suite.
She stood in the same endless void from before.
Silver ground beneath her feet.
Dark sky above.
But this timeâ
She was not alone.
A second figure stood beside the first presence she had seen earlier.
And this new one felt⌠familiar.
Ariaâs breath caught.
The figure stepped forward slowly.
And as the light revealed her faceâ
Aria froze completely.
Because she knew her.
Or at leastâŚ
She should have.
Long dark hair.
Sharp eyes filled with emotion Aria couldnât place.
A face that looked like a distorted reflection of her own.
ââŚNo,â Aria whispered.
The girl tilted her head slightly.
âFinally,â she said softly.
Ariaâs voice shook. âWho are you?â
The girl smiled faintly.
And that smile hurt.
âYou should recognize me,â she said.
A pause.
Thenâ
âIâm the one they replaced you with.â
Aria stumbled back.
âWhat are you talking about?â
The girl stepped closer.
And with each step, the air grew heavier.
âYou were never the only version of you,â she said.
Aria shook her head. âThatâs impossible.â
But even as she said itâŚ
Something inside her twisted.
Like a memory she didnât remember losing.
The girlâs voice softened.
âYou were sealed first.â
A beat.
âThen erased.â
Ariaâs heart pounded.
âI donât understandâŚâ
The girlâs eyes darkened slightly.
âYou will.â
Aria jolted awake violently.
She was back in the suite.
Dante was holding her shoulders, steadying her.
Her entire body was shaking.
âWhat did you see?â he demanded.
Aria couldnât speak at first.
Her throat felt tight.
âI saw⌠another me,â she whispered.
The stranger went still.
Danteâs expression tightened instantly.
âThat is not possible,â the stranger said.
Aria looked at him sharply. âIâm not making it up.â
Dante released her slowly.
His jaw clenched.
Thenâ
âThen the seal is failing faster than I thought.â
Ariaâs blood ran cold.
âThe seal again?â she snapped. âWhat is sealing me?!â
Dante didnât answer immediately.
When he did, his voice was lower.
Heavier.
âYou are not just a being, Aria.â
A pause.
âYou are a boundary.â
Silence.
The storm outside resumed violently.
Thunder cracked instantly as if the world had been released again.
Aria stared at him.
âA boundary between what?â
Danteâs eyes met hers.
And for the first timeâ
He didnât hide the truth.
âBetween what exists⌠and what should not return.â
A loud explosion shook the palace below.
Voices erupted in the halls.
Shouting.
Chaos.
Then a guardâs voice echoed upward:
âTHE COUNCIL HAS ARRIVEDâAND THEY BROUGHT THE EXECUTION ORDER!â
Ariaâs breath stopped.
Dante turned toward the door immediately.
His aura shiftedâcold, absolute, dangerous.
The stranger cursed under his breath.
Aria stepped back instinctively. âExecutionâŚ? For me?â
Dante looked at her.
Not unkindly.
But firmly.
âNot if I can stop it.â
A pause.
Then he added:
âAnd I intend to.â
Another explosion shook the building.
This time closer.
Dante turned fully toward her.
âStay behind me,â he said again.
But this timeâ
It wasnât just protection.
It was declaration.
Because whatever Aria wasâŚ
Ravencrest had finally decided what to do with her.
And it was not mercy.
To Be ContinuedâŚ
