Bound to the Alpha — Chapter 7: The Awakening Within The alarms did not stop. They echoed through Ravencrest like a living warning—deep, metallic, and endless—reverberating off obsidian walls as storm clouds churned violently above the palace. Aria stood in the center of her suite, breath uneven, staring at her wrist. The mark was no longer just glowing. It was reacting. To everything. To the palace. To the storm. To him. Dante was still holding her wrist, his expression unreadable—but his eyes had changed. Focused. Sharpened. Like he was listening to something no one else could hear. “What is happening to me?” Aria whispered again, voice trembling now. Dante didn’t answer immediately. That silence was worse than words. Outside, thunder cracked violently. The window shimmered—then fractured slightly, thin lines spreading across the glass like veins. “The system is responding,” Dante finally said. Aria swallowed hard. “System?” His gaze flicked to her. “Ravencrest is not just a kingdom,” he said quietly. “It is a seal.” Her chest tightened. “A seal for what?” Dante didn’t answer. And that told her everything. A sudden knock shattered the tension. Before Dante could respond, the door opened. The stranger stepped in, no longer joking. His usual relaxed expression was gone, replaced with something sharper. “Bad timing?” he asked, glancing between them. “Always,” Aria muttered instinctively. He almost smiled—but didn’t. “The eastern wing is collapsing,” he said. “Not physically. Energetically. The guards are saying the barrier lines are reacting to her mark.” Aria stiffened. “My mark is breaking your palace?” “Not breaking,” Dante corrected. He looked at her wrist again. “Awakening it.” That word made her stomach drop. The stranger crossed his arms. “Also, small issue—three council members are on their way here right now, and they are not happy.” Dante didn’t look concerned. “Let them come.” Aria stared at him. “You’re not worried?” “I am,” he said simply. A pause. Then, quieter: “But not about them.” The temperature in the room shifted again. Cold. Heavy. Wrong. Aria stepped back instinctively. Her mark pulsed sharply—once—twice— Then everything went silent. Not peaceful silence. Empty silence. Like the world had stopped listening. Aria’s breath caught. “…Dante?” she whispered. He moved instantly. “Do not resist it.” “I’m not doing anything!” “That is the problem.” The mark flared violently. A shockwave of energy exploded outward— Glass shattered. The ceiling lights flickered out. The storm outside stopped mid-motion, as if frozen in time. Aria gasped, dropping to her knees. And then— Everything went black. When she opened her eyes again, she was no longer in the suite. She stood in the same endless void from before. Silver ground beneath her feet. Dark sky above. But this time— She was not alone. A second figure stood beside the first presence she had seen earlier. And this new one felt… familiar. Aria’s breath caught. The figure stepped forward slowly. And as the light revealed her face— Aria froze completely. Because she knew her. Or at least… She should have. Long dark hair. Sharp eyes filled with emotion Aria couldn’t place. A face that looked like a distorted reflection of her own. “…No,” Aria whispered. The girl tilted her head slightly. “Finally,” she said softly. Aria’s voice shook. “Who are you?” The girl smiled faintly. And that smile hurt. “You should recognize me,” she said. A pause. Then— “I’m the one they replaced you with.” Aria stumbled back. “What are you talking about?” The girl stepped closer. And with each step, the air grew heavier. “You were never the only version of you,” she said. Aria shook her head. “That’s impossible.” But even as she said it… Something inside her twisted. Like a memory she didn’t remember losing. The girl’s voice softened. “You were sealed first.” A beat. “Then erased.” Aria’s heart pounded. “I don’t understand…” The girl’s eyes darkened slightly. “You will.” Aria jolted awake violently. She was back in the suite. Dante was holding her shoulders, steadying her. Her entire body was shaking. “What did you see?” he demanded. Aria couldn’t speak at first. Her throat felt tight. “I saw… another me,” she whispered. The stranger went still. Dante’s expression tightened instantly. “That is not possible,” the stranger said. Aria looked at him sharply. “I’m not making it up.” Dante released her slowly. His jaw clenched. Then— “Then the seal is failing faster than I thought.” Aria’s blood ran cold. “The seal again?” she snapped. “What is sealing me?!” Dante didn’t answer immediately. When he did, his voice was lower. Heavier. “You are not just a being, Aria.” A pause. “You are a boundary.” Silence. The storm outside resumed violently. Thunder cracked instantly as if the world had been released again. Aria stared at him. “A boundary between what?” Dante’s eyes met hers. And for the first time— He didn’t hide the truth. “Between what exists… and what should not return.” A loud explosion shook the palace below. Voices erupted in the halls. Shouting. Chaos. Then a guard’s voice echoed upward: “THE COUNCIL HAS ARRIVED—AND THEY BROUGHT THE EXECUTION ORDER!” Aria’s breath stopped. Dante turned toward the door immediately. His aura shifted—cold, absolute, dangerous. The stranger cursed under his breath. Aria stepped back instinctively. “Execution…? For me?” Dante looked at her. Not unkindly. But firmly. “Not if I can stop it.” A pause. Then he added: “And I intend to.” Another explosion shook the building. This time closer. Dante turned fully toward her. “Stay behind me,” he said again. But this time— It wasn’t just protection. It was declaration. Because whatever Aria was… Ravencrest had finally decided what to do with her. And it was not mercy. To Be Continued…
