Chapter Two: The Awakening🤍

1223 Words
That was all Aria Blackwood could feel. It consumed her body like fire, spreading through every nerve and every breath. She lay on the cold forest floor beyond the Shadow Moon Pack border, trembling violently as the mate bond continued to tear itself apart inside her chest. The moon hung high above. Cold. Merciless. Watching her suffer. A broken sob escaped her lips. "Why?" she whispered. The question disappeared into the night. No answer came. No comfort. No miracle. Only pain. Hours seemed to pass. Or maybe minutes. Aria no longer knew. Eventually the agony eased enough for her to move. Slowly, she pushed herself upright. Her dress was stained with dirt. Her eyes burned from tears. Her entire body felt hollow. Like something important had been ripped away. Perhaps it had. The mate bond was gone. Not completely. But enough. Enough to leave an empty ache where love once existed. Aria laughed bitterly. A few hours ago, she had been preparing to become Luna. Now she was homeless. Rejected. Exiled. Alone. The irony was almost funny. Almost. A twig snapped nearby. Aria instantly froze. Her wolf stirred uneasily. Someone was there. Watching. The forest became silent. Too silent. Slowly, Aria stood. "Who's there?" she called. No answer. Her pulse quickened. Another sound. Closer this time. A growl rumbled through the darkness. Not friendly. Not familiar. Dangerous. Aria's stomach dropped. Rogue wolves. Of course. The Moon Goddess clearly wasn't finished tormenting her. Three figures emerged from the shadows. Large. Dirty. Scarred. Their eyes glowed faintly beneath the moonlight. Rogues. The most dangerous type of wolf. Packless. Lawless. Merciless. One of them smiled. "Look what we found." Aria took a step backward. The rogues advanced. Slowly. Like predators cornering wounded prey. "We're not looking for trouble," she said. The leader laughed. "But trouble found us." His gaze moved over her torn dress and pale face. Recognition appeared instantly. "Wait." Another rogue stepped forward. "That's her." Aria's heart skipped. "What?" The second rogue grinned. "The rejected Luna." Fear twisted in her chest. News traveled fast. Too fast. The first rogue's smile widened. "Looks like the Alpha threw away something valuable." The way he said it made Aria's skin crawl. She continued backing away. One step. Then another. The rogues followed. "Leave me alone." "Sorry." The leader cracked his knuckles. "We've been paid to bring you in." Aria froze. Paid? By who? Before she could ask— The rogue lunged. Aria reacted instantly. She turned and ran. Branches whipped against her arms as she sprinted through the forest. Her lungs burned. Her heartbeat thundered. Behind her, the rogues chased relentlessly. They were faster. Stronger. And she knew it. Another branch caught her shoulder. Pain exploded through her arm. She stumbled. The rogues gained ground immediately. "Stop running!" Aria ignored them. Fear drove her forward. She wasn't dying tonight. Not after everything. Not after Kael. Not after being humiliated before the entire pack. She refused. Suddenly her foot caught a root. The world tilted. She crashed hard against the ground. Pain shot through her knees. No. No no no. The rogues surrounded her within seconds. Their smiles made her stomach turn. The leader crouched beside her. "That was disappointing." Aria struggled backward. Nowhere to go. Nowhere to run. The forest suddenly felt very small. Very dark. Very hopeless. The rogue reached for her. And something snapped. Not outside. Inside. A sharp pain exploded in her chest. Then heat. Intense. Wild. Ancient. Aria gasped. The air around her vibrated. The rogues paused. Confused. "What is that?" one of them asked. Aria didn't know. She couldn't answer. Power surged through her body. Raw. Uncontrolled. Terrifying. The ground beneath her trembled. Leaves swirled violently around the clearing. The rogues took nervous steps backward. For the first time, fear appeared in their eyes. Aria's silver eyes began glowing. Bright. Unnaturally bright. The leader stared. "What the hell—" The energy exploded. A shockwave burst from Aria's body. The force slammed into the rogues. All three were thrown through the air like rag dolls. Trees cracked. Branches shattered. The clearing erupted into chaos. Then silence. Complete silence. Aria stared at her trembling hands. Her breathing became uneven. "What did I do?" Nobody answered. The rogues lay unconscious several yards away. Not dead. But definitely defeated. Aria backed away slowly. Her heart hammered wildly. That wasn't normal. Nothing about that was normal. She had never possessed abilities like that. Never. A cold realization settled over her. The rejection had changed something. Something important. Something dangerous. A distant howl echoed through the forest. Aria's head snapped up. Another howl answered. Then another. More wolves. Coming closer. The power burst must have attracted attention. Panic surged through her chest. She couldn't stay here. Not now. Not after what happened. Aria forced herself to move. One shaky step at a time. The deeper she traveled into the forest, the more exhausted she became. Her body was reaching its limit. The emotional pain. The bond rejection. The sudden awakening. Everything was too much. Hours later, just before dawn, she found an abandoned cabin hidden among thick trees. Relief flooded her chest. It wasn't much. Old wood. Broken windows. Dust everywhere. But it was shelter. And right now, that was enough. Aria stepped inside. The cabin creaked ominously. Still, it felt safer than the forest. She sank onto the floor. For the first time all night, silence surrounded her. No wolves. No hunters. No Kael. No pack. Just her thoughts. Unfortunately, those were almost worse. Tears slipped down her cheeks again. She hated crying. But tonight everything hurt. The betrayal. The rejection. The loneliness. Most of all, the questions. Why had Kael done it? Why had Selene smiled? What was happening to her power? And why did she have the terrible feeling that this was only the beginning? Exhaustion eventually dragged her into sleep. But far away, someone else remained awake. In the towering black fortress of Ravencrest Kingdom, Alpha King Dante Ravencrest stood before a massive map. Several guards waited nearby. Nervous. Silent. Dante's gaze remained fixed on the northern territories. The strange feeling from earlier hadn't disappeared. If anything, it had grown stronger. His wolf remained restless. Awake. Watching. Waiting. "My King." A guard stepped forward. "We've located the source." Dante's eyes sharpened instantly. "Where?" "The forests near Shadow Moon territory." Silence. Then Dante turned. For the first time in years, anticipation flickered within him. "Prepare the car." The guard blinked. "My King?" Dante's voice dropped dangerously low. "I don't repeat myself." The guard bowed immediately. "Yes, my King." As the guard hurried away, Dante looked toward the horizon. Toward the woman he had never met. The woman who somehow made his wolf awaken after years of silence. A faint smile touched his lips. "Let's see who you are, little wolf." And somewhere deep within the forest, fate quietly began weaving their paths together. To Be Continued... Author's Note ❤️ Thank you for reading Chapter 2 of Bound to the Alpha!
