“But I can tell you’re not like the others.”
“I hope you’re not offended Olivia. It’s a joke!’ Catherine exclaims and I study my nails. I want to kill everyone at this moment.
“Yeah it’s okay.” I mutter and look away. People talk and I’m about to chat with Skylar when my phone rings.
It’s Quentin, my exboyfriend. We broke up when I told him I was shifting to Northside High. Unfortunately, his caller ID was still named as “Boyfriend ❤️”.
Everyone sees this and Skylar seems the most surprised. Catherine “is the first to ask me about it.
“I never knew you were dating someone, bad luck for Blake though.” Catherine smiles oddly at me. I feel someone staring holes into my skull and turn around to find Colton.
“No, it’s not what you think.” I say and the bell rings signaling us to go to class, Luckily, I have gym with Skylar. I grab her and drag her out of the cafeteria.
“What?” She asks me confused and I feel my blood pressure rising. I can never ever forgive for making me this humiliated. If she wasn’t sitting there with them, no one would know about the call.
“Don’t you see what you did? Why were you sitting with them in the first place?” I snap at her and she seems stunned at my response.
“Matthew asked me to sit there and I’m sorry abut the thing with Blake it just seemed so funny.” Skylar says innocently and I roll my eyes.
“Well, everyone saw the call and they’ll ask it later.” I point out and she nods, We reach the locker room and I change into some shorts and a shirt.
“Yeah, about that. Who was that mysterious person? I noticed Colton madly staring at you.” We walk towards the field. Wind blows into my face and the sky looks like it’s about to rain.
“I broke up with Quentin ages ago but I forgot to change his name on my phone. I don’t know why he was calling me.” I tell her as we take a lap around the field.
“I have good news for you. It’s about you and that eye candy Colton.” She winks at me and I laugh.
“If you didn’t notice I don’t give a f**k about him.” I answer back and continue to run.
“He’s single now. He broke up with Catherine last night. Matthew told me.” She still tells me and I’m surprised. Why did they break up?
“Why?” I ask while panting because of running so much.
“He caught her cheating on him with this guy from another school.”
“But they didn’t act like anything happened today. Everything looked chill.”
“It wasn’t. And that means you can have your shot at him.” She teases me and I push her. She almost trips but that’s good enough.
Finally, I open the doors of the school and breathe the fresh air. School has finally finished. Skylar stayed back for decorating our auditorium for the dance.
I walk over to my car and find somebody waiting for me.
“Olivia, I was wondering if you would go out with me tonight?” Colton asks me out of the blue and I gasp. Oh, my god. Did he just ask me on a date?
“Sure.” I reply calmly. From outside, I may look like a normal high school senior accepting to go out on a date with the football captain but from inside, I’m freaking out.
“Starbucks at seven pm?” I nod and he walks away. I feel my pulse rising, I climb into my car and drive to my house cautiously not trying to kill myself before the date.
I spend a lot of time in having a shower. I pick an outfit comprising blue ripped jeans and a white tube top. I straighten my hair and at 6:30 leave. What if he stood up on me?
I park my car and nervously walk inside Starbucks hoping that he’s there. I look around and find him sitting in the corner waiting for me. I walk over to him and sit down hoping that it doesn’t become awkward.
“You made it.” He says surprised. He expected me to not come? I shouldn’t have come.
“I shouldn’t have come?”
“No, I didn’t mean that.” He laughs and I feel self conscious.
“So why did you ask me out?” I ask him and place my hands on the table.
“I already told you I liked you.”
“I’m sorry about what happened with Catherine.” I say trying to avoid that. I feel him glaring at me which makes me uncomfortable.
“Yeah, but I’m glad that we broke up. I never liked her that much.” He tells me as I nod and muster up my courage to look at him in the eye.
“Would you go to the dance tomorrow with me?” Colton asks me.
