There was a strange whistle in the air, and Mason identified it two seconds before it was too late, grabbing Alaric and shoving him, diving after him. The world around them exploded as they rolled. When they stopped, Alaric was bleeding, his eyes glazed over and flames danced around them, far too close for comfort. Mason scrambled up and pulled Alaric with him. They moved away from the flames, toward the back of the motel where the truck was parked. Mason winced as the sun found his skin, but kept moving, his arm around Alaric who was starting to get his feet under him.
