“We need to go back and get it, before the snow comes,” Bryan said, standing against the wall with his arms crossed. “It"s a suicide mission.” Alaric Lambrecht let the argument swirl around him, his eyes on his mother"s face. When the voices settled into silence he looked up. They were all looking to him. He was supposed to step into the place his father"s death had left empty. He let his eyes sweep over the gathered group of people. They were a ragged bunch, city folk who had no idea how hard it was to live rough like they"d been forced to do since leaving Sacramento.
