It Hurts

1475 Words
The next morning I woke up and my leg was throbbing. It had healed some, but not nearly as fast as it should be. I groaned as I tried to stand and found it too painful. Adam stirred in his sleep and opened one eye and squinted trying to focus. "What's wrong?" "Nothing. My leg is just a little tender." He sat up and came over to me, pushing my hands away when I tried to shove him away. He glared up at me as he rolled up the pant leg and I hissed in pain. "Well, hope you're happy. You will need to see a doctor. Now. It looks like your cut was laced with something when he bit you and now it looks super angry." I started to object and he looked at me. "I'm not arguing this with you. You're too important to me and every other wolf on this earth to die from a d*mn leg infection. So shut up, and let's go. I'll throw you over my shoulder if I have to." I muttered a "I would like to see you try." and before I finished my sentence he scooped me up and threw me over his shoulder and headed to the door. I squealed out of irritation and pounded his back with my fists to no avail. I grumbled in defeat and rested my chin on my hand and my elbow rested on his back. "I'm taking her to the pack house, her leg doesn't look great and she's whining that it hurts." He told Shawn and Alex in passing. "I was NOT whining. You're the one acting like an overprotective mate and making me go to the doctor. You are NOT my mate if you haven't noticed so you have NO reason to be acting like this." I thumped him on the back with my fist again to get my point across. "I know I'm not your mate, and thank the Moon Goddess. I don't think I could handle a brat like you!" I grunted at him in response. The siblings just nodded and looked at me with disapproval. Alex looked back at the TV and shook his head. Adam tossed me into the passenger seat of the car and shut the door behind him, walking around to the driver's side. He climbed in and started it, and we headed towards the pack house. My leg was still throbbing and a light pink liquid pooled around the punctures. I definitely agreed that it was laced with something. When we got to the edge of the pack lands, two wolves approached either side of the car and nodded us through. We drove up to the pack house and it was more modern than I expected. It looked recently renovated with white siding and lots of windows lined the outside with black shutters on the outside of each. The landscaping was neatly upkept, with yellow and pink flowers everywhere. We climbed the steps and entered a rather extravagant entrance, with white marble flooring and black accents.  Demetrius' Beta, Damon came down the staircase to greet us. His ice blue eyes held little to no emotion, and he gave off the vibe he would rather k*ll us than talk to us. I didn't doubt for a second that was actually the case. Adam stepped forward and extended his hand to greet him, but Damon stared at it like it was disgusting. Adam retracted his hand and tried to hide the offended look by stuffing his hands in his pockets. "To what do we owe the pleasure, Adam? Who have you brought with you?" Damon stared at me, looking me over and his eyes rested on my pulled up pant leg with my wound visible. "Ah, right this way." Damon led us down a long hallway to the left of the entrance while Adam walked behind with me. My leg was getting more painful, and the oozing was starting to cause the skin to bubble around it. I concentrated on my steps and my breathing to keep from showing the pain. "Olivia? What are you doing here?" I turned to see Demetrius taking large steps toward us. "I was attacked by rogues last night. One of them got my leg, and Adam thinks it's laced with something since it's not healing." He grabbed my hand when he reached me and looked down at my wound. Before I could say another word, Demetrius scooped me up and carried me bridal style to the hospital wing in the pack house. By this time I couldn't even argue, as I was starting to feel dizzy and nauseous. Little black dots clouded my vision, and I could tell I would lose consciousness soon. I could hear Aly whimpering in my head, but she sounded muffled and far away. I heard a deep voice yelling, but I couldn't make out the words. The sound of that voice,  though. It sounded sweet, like a melody to my ears. Like it was the best thing I had ever heard. I let my eyes droop closed and everything went black. **Demetrius POV** I carried her towards the hospital wing, noticing her eye lids drooping and could see her pupils dilating. This had to be the oddest thing I've ever seen. What did they lace their teeth with, and how would a rogue know to do such a thing? Did they target her directly or was this a chance encounter? I frowned when her head rolled back, and I could tell she was unconcious. I heard a loud roar come from behind me and turned to see Alpha Xander of the Crescent Moon pack charging towards me with a look of rage on his face. I made the connection and started to speak to tell him to wait, but Adam lunged at him when he reached Olivia and I. They rolled on the ground, neither one of them willing to submit and fighting furiously. I mind linked Damon to come handle those two while I took Olivia to the doctor. I had already mind linked the doctor that we were coming, and she assured me they would be ready. If Xander was her mate, he should be there but I'm not going to let him in until he calms down. Figures she would be his mate. I shook my head as I laid her in the hospital bed and Doctor Shayla came rushing in to begin tests and try to get her stable. I backed away and let the nurses join her at the bedside to do their work. I heard shouting outside of the door and rubbed my eyes. This would be a long day dealing with those two. Alpha Xander was here helping to train our warriors, and I was sure now he knew his mate was here, he wouldn't be much help in that area. Xander is the fiercest Alpha out of the packs in this region, and he leads warriors that are just as fierce. I turned and walked back out of the door to see Damon holding Xander and one of my warriors holding Adam. I walked in between them and shouted "ENOUGH!" and they both stopped fighting the men holding them back. "Alpha Xander, your mate is in grave condition right now, I suggest you calm yourself so I can take you to her. Adam, you are done here. I will put you up in a room for the night unless you wish to head back to the apartment." Adam growled lowly. "I will not be leaving her in the company of this prick. She's my sister, and I will be the one that stays with her." Xander fought Damon to let him go and his eyes spit venom at Adam.  "Like h*ll you will, mutt. I'll rip you apart before I let that happen." I sighed. "Neither of you will see her then. You're on my turf, and neither of you will disrespect me in my own house. Now get out of here and for Moon Goddess' sake, calm down." I heard them both growling either at me or at each other,  but I ignored it and turned to go back into the hospital wing. I mind linked the warrior to grab a partner and stand guard at the door. I am the only one allowed in at the moment until those two blockheads can get their heads out of their a*ses. The warrior responded with a quick "Yes Alpha" and I closed the link. I grabbed a chair in the corner and watched the nurses work, hooking up tube after tube to Olivia. I watched them take samples from the wound and put cold, wet towels on her to try to control her spiking fever. What the h*ll are we dealing with here.....
