Sweet Dreams

I woke up around 2:30AM with a start, gasping and covered in sweat. I had another dream of my parents, only this time there was a man behind them. His face hidden by the hood of a sweatshirt, he laughed menacingly as they screamed at me that it was my fault they were d*ad. He chanted foreign words in a whisper and waved his hands like he was guiding an orchestra. For the first time in these dreams, I had screamed back that it wasn't my fault and to look behind them and they would see. They just kept screaming and telling me how much they hated me. The mystery man grabbed them from behind and began to ch*ke them, they still clawed and screeched at me, their eyes black with anger and their faces contorted to the point they were almost unrecognizable. I woke up when my parents dropped to the floor, twitching and screeching. I glanced around me as I came to and realized I was awake and in my room. Adam and I shared a room since the apartment had 4 bedrooms, and he was soundly sleeping in his bed. I climbed out of my bed and opened the door softly and closing it behind me. I headed down the hall toward the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. Taking a huge swig, I closed the fridge door and plopped myself down on the couch. For the next two hours, I flipped through the TV channels and settled on an action movie I had never seen before. I finished my water and played a game on my phone trying hard to make myself tired again. Every time I closed my eyes the dream replayed in my head and I would wake up again. I needed to clear my head. It was 4:30 and I knew no one would be awake for at least another hour or so. I'm not waking them up just so I could go on a walk. I changed my clothes, throwing on some jogging pants and a hoodie. Walking out of the apartment, and closing the door softly behind me, I headed out of the apartment building towards the pool and gym in the back. I pushed open the gate behind the pool that lead out into the woods. Aly whimpered in my head, longing for a run. I decided to humor her and walked deeper into the woods, sniffing the air to make sure no one was around. I pulled my clothes off and neatly folded them and tucked them into my hoodie. I took a deep breath and willed Aly to come forward and she huffed happily as she took control to shift. Shifting only takes seconds now, and I can shift midair if needed thanks to my training with the siblings. Aly jogged and hunted, stopping to roll in the leaves and dirt. She took a huge breath in, reveling in the scents that surrounded us. Stopping at a stream to drink, she lapped at the water and it was so cold and refreshing I could feel her doing a happy wiggle. As she turned back to start heading towards our clothes that were tucked neatly under a bush, a revolting scent hit her nose and she growled lowly. 'Rogues.' I said. 'But how did they get onto the lands?' 'The city isn't well protected because of the humans, I'm sure they snuck in through there.' Rogues were wolves who were cast out or banished from their packs. Some became rogues willingly, but it was very rare. Wolves are very pack oriented, and usually any that were banished or cast out were done so because of crimes or actions committed against their pack. Because of their crimes, no one will willingly accept them into their pack, and they eventually go mad from it. These are the wolves the humans have made movies and written stories about. Aly circled as a large brown wolf emerged from the bushes, with four more right behind him. Their eyes were rimmed with red, and saliva dripped from the sides of their mouth. Their coats were matted and all of them had patches missing revealing red angry scars underneath. I realized then I would have no choice but to fight my way out, as I had no way to contact anyone to alert them that rogues had breached the borders. Aly released control and retreated into the back of our mind, forcing me into control. 'Aly, what the h*ll?! I thought you had this, you chicken sh*t!' 'Calm down, Olive. You got this, I need to see if there is a way to contact anyone with our powers.' Not wanting them to see my hesitation, I quickly turned my attention back on the five rogues standing in front of me as they all lunged at once. I circled and snapped and lunged for the smaller wolf, snapping his neck easily. Turning to face the next target, I felt a sharp pain in my leg and looked back to see the large wolf had his teeth in my back leg. I swung my paw as hard as I could and left deep claw marks across his eye. He yelped and released me and I lunged towards the other three. I could feel the blood running down my leg, but I wasn't about to let it distract me. I took them out almost effortlessly, and turned back towards the large brown wolf who was now circling me. I attacked, and we were a ball of fur, claws, and teeth. I waited for the opportunity to strike and it didn't take long. I saw an opening and lunged for his neck, ripping it out and the wolf fell to the ground lifeless. I inhaled deeply to make sure I couldn't detect any more in the bushes, and it was clear. I turned to go shift back and get dressed when I heard several sets of footfalls coming towards me at a breakneck pace. I turned to see Alex, Adam, and Shawn running toward me, and realized I was covered in blood and probably quite a sight. They all shifted and I looked anywhere but at them. I still had not gotten used to the n*ked thing, especially with me being female and them all being very large male wolves. They pulled on clothes left in a box behind a tree, and came towards me. I tilted my head to signal I was going to shift and get dress and they nodded. Once I shifted I emerged from behind the bushes and their faces were surprised and horrified. My leg was starting to throb a little, and I could see some bruises forming under the bl*od that soaked my skin. Adam came forward and wrapped his arms around me, gripping me as if he was afraid to let go. "I heard you...well....not you. Aly. I was so scared, Olive....It woke me up and I panicked." It clicked in my head what he meant. 'Aly, did you mind link Adam? How?' 'I'm not sure, honestly. I concentrated really hard and panicked when you were hurt, and that's when I felt the connection go through. All I got out was help and a picture of the location before it shut again.' The brothers came and wrapped their arms around Adam and I. Shawn growled in my ear and reminded me that I was not supposed to be going off by myself. On our walk back, I told them about my dream and how I had tried to get back to sleep. I told them how I was just going to go for a walk and that Aly was in need of a run, and I didn't want to wake them up. I pointed backwards when Adam started to go on a rant about how I put myself in danger and I could have been k*lled. "You saw what was left of them, right? I think I did a d*mn good job of taking care of myself. Give me some credit, I'm not helpless." He rolled his eyes and put his arm around my shoulder. "You also got yourself hurt. Demetrius isn't going to be happy when he sees you coming to the pack house to see the doctor because you decided to fight those rogues by yourself." "I'm not going to the pack doctor, and it's none of his business. I didn't have a choice, if I would have tried to run they would have chased me and I would have ended up fighting them anyways. Cool your jets, bud." "Yeah, ok. Whatever you say, princess. I'm not going to argue with you." "Good. You won't win." I threw my arm around his waist and tried my best to ignore the growing pain in my leg. I would deal with it later.
