Mate?

1382 Words
**Alpha Xander's POV** I had gone home. That mutt Adam wouldn't let me near her, and Demetrius vowed to wage war if I k*lled him. I had no interest in war, even when I was certain I would win. My pack had finally accepted me as their alpha, even if some of it was not by choice. I don't enjoy being an a*s, but sometimes it has to be done for the good of everyone. Just like in this situation with my mate. I had given Demetrius my number and the doctor was to call me the second she woke up. I couldn't delay this any longer. When the doctor called I immediately climbed into my car and sped all the way there. I threw the car into park and power walked my way to the hospital. Dax was whining in my head and threatening me if I carried through with this, but I was far too focused. I threw open the door to a sight I was not expecting. My mate was curled into Adam, looking quite peaceful and beautiful without the tubes and lines running out of her. Dax and I were immediately enraged and I had to put my rage on hold to keep him from taking over and k*lling them both. "What the h*ll are you doing in bed with my mate, Adam???!! Give me one good reason why I shouldn't k*ll you where you sit?" I walked toward the bed and reached out my hand for Adam's throat. Before I could, I felt her small hand grab mine and the sparks I felt were unbelievable. I looked at her in shock before she bent back my fingers, breaking my index finger, and swung her other hand towards my face. I grabbed her hand before it connected and growled at her in warning. My hand was radiating pain, and I was still in shock she had the balls to come at me like that. She didn't back down, and growled back at me in response. I could feel her aura and could tell she was an alpha as well. Female alpha's were not common, and she was powerful. I could feel that. I could also feel all of the sparks from the mate bond radiating through me. Could she feel them too? She sure didn't show it if she did. "Care to explain, little mate?" I released her hand and her fists fell by her sides, still clenched tightly. I cradled my broken finger and pushed her button on the side of her bed for assistance. It would heal quickly, but it still needed to be splinted in the meantime. "I don't have to explain anything to you, mate." She snarled at me. Her voice was a bit hoarse and I could tell she hadn't spoke much since she woke up. I was intrigued by her. She was resisting the mate bond for this little mutt. This is not what I expected at all, and went against everything I had heard about the mate bond. I had always heard how it was irresistible and I've seen wolves throw themselves at each other after realizing they were mates. "Well I just found you in bed with someone else, sweetie. I think I'm owed an explanation." I sat down in a chair next to the bed and Adam and I locked eyes. "No wonder you wouldn't let me in here. You wanted her to not wake up to me so you could claim her as your own. Filthy mutt." He gritted his teeth and glared. "That has nothing to do with why I didn't want you here. You wanted to reject her, remember? Don't sit here and try to make yourself the victim." I could see her shoulders fall at his comment and I felt a pang of guilt. I fixed my expression and looked at her. "Listen, I--" "Don't. I don't care why you wanted to. I get it. An injured wolf would sure make a sorry Luna for a prime mate such as yourself, right?" She stared into my eyes and Dax whimpered in my head. 'How dare you hurt her. You hurt mate. She doesn't want us now and it's your fault! I told you it was a bad idea. You have no idea who she is.' "I'll spare you the trouble. I, Olivia Manuel, the rightful Alpha of the Red Moon pack and future Queen of all wolves, do hereby reject you as my mate and future king." I doubled over, the searing pain taking over my whole body. Dax howled in pain in my head. I collapsed into a ball and held my chest. I felt like I was being crushed, no air getting into my lungs. This was h*ll. "OLIVIA. What have you done?!" I heard Demetrius shouting, but he sounded far away. I glanced up to see her convulsing on the bed, her eyes rolled back into her head. My stomach dropped and I immediately pushed myself up. Adam and Demetrius both held her arms and I slammed the button on the side of her bed. My hand was the least of my worries, and I went looking for a nurse. I grabbed the first one I saw, shoving her roughly towards Olivia. She quickly mind linked the doctor and grabbed a syringe of what I can only assume was a sedative and injected it into Olivia's arm. After a few more moments of her thrashing, her body went quiet and she was still. The nurse took her vitals, and I could see her glancing in my direction as I cradled my hand. The pain was lessening and I knew it was healing. "I'm fine, you can stop looking at me like that and tend to Olivia." I heard Adam growl and I sighed. "Yeah I get it, mutt. This is my fault. I was going to reject her but I was going to tell her we could wait until she gained strength so this wouldn't happen." "So you just wanted her to sit here and wait, knowing you didn't want her and intended to reject her? Even for a wolf like her, that would be enough torture in itself." "What do you mean, a wolf like her?" "Don't worry about it. Let's just say she's important to all of us." I let the nurse look at my hand, but it was already almost healed. I watched her sleep peacefully and internally battled with myself and Dax on whether to accept her rejection or not. If I accepted the rejection, the tie would break for good. Was having a mate really all that bad? She was sassy and could hold her own, and I really liked that. Maybe the Moon Goddess knew what she was doing after all. I may have just met my match. Her eyes were mesmerizing, and her body was perfect, and I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to be with her. Dax purred. 'Probably better than anything we've ever had. I'm only talking to you right now because you're thinking about her. We are not accepting that rejection and I will never speak to you again if you do.' I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. Demetrius and Adam had stepped out and it was just Olivia and I in the room. I moved my chair over next to her bed and took her hand in mine. "I, Xander Neilsen, Alpha of the Crescent moon pack, hereby reject your rejection to be your future king. Whatever that means, dear. I at least need the time to get to know you before I decide if you're something I can live without." I smiled as she slowly opened her eyes. The sparks crept up my arm as I realized I was still holding her hand. I went to pully my hand away when she gripped tighter, keeping me from letting go. "You're an id*ot." She whispered. "I was going to reject you too. Whenever I found you, that is. You have no idea what you've done." She let go of my hand and rolled so her back was facing me. I sat back in my chair trying to process her words. What a cluster f*ck.
