**Alpha Olivia POV**
I was swimming in a dark colored lake that seemed to stretch on for miles. I don't know how long I was in it, I just knew I was swimming in circles looking for land. I found it odd that I never seemed to get tired. I couldn't feel or hear Aly, so I assumed she was gone. I was all alone in this lake that never ended, and no one would hear my cries. I gave up more than once, letting myself sink, but as soon as the water was over my head, I was coming up for air like I did initially when I woke up here.
Every once in awhile I would hear someone mumbling, but they always sounded muffled and never heard my cries for help. It was an endless cycle and I felt like I was slowly going mad. Where is this place and why am I here?
**Adam's POV**
I visited Olive every day. The day after my fight with her sorry excuse for a mate, he stormed in asking to see her. She was finally stable, and with all the tubes and machines hooked up to her, I can only imagine how hard they had to work to get her there. His sorry a*s came to reject her, but only got out his name before I had the warriors drag him out. How dare he try to do that to her in such a vulnerable state? Who knows how it would have affected her, and it may have even killed her if he would have succeeded.
Finding your mate is a sacred gift from the Moon Goddess, and this oaf was about to make the biggest mistake of his life. I didn't like him, but I had to protect her and at least give her the option to accept it or reject him first when she woke up. Part of me wished she was my mate, but my wolf huffed in my head at the thought. At least she wouldn't have to endure a mate who was as worthless as Xander, and I could keep her safe.
I leaned forward in my chair at her bedside and took her hand. She's been out about a week now, and her being on oxygen and a feeding tube is the only thing keeping her alive. The wound on her leg had long healed, and the doctor was doing what she could to find out what exactly it was. It was not wolfsbane or silver, it had a pink hue. Even with the feeding tube, she had slimmed down some.
I had left to grab lunch and came back to the siblings standing next to her bed. They had been in to see her at least once every other day. Addy had been by once, but Demetrius was keeping her busy with pack business and training with Xander to strengthen the pack's defenses. They looked at me solemnly, and Alex took her hand and sat on the bed next to her. Shawn stood next to me and we all watched her unmoving frame.
"Has her sh*t excuse for a mate come back?" Shawn asked, not taking his eyes off of her.
"Nope, I heard he returned to his pack. Good for nothing mutt." I responded.
"Well, hopefully when she wakes up she rejects him and we never have to see him again. I doubt she remembers him being there, anyways." Shawn plopped himself in another chair in the corner of the room, rubbing his eyes. I could tell both of the brothers had grown attached to her in the short time we had been here, and to be honest, I had too in the short time since I found her.
The siblings stuck around for another hour or so and then headed back to the apartment to get ready for training. I sat down on the bed next to her to say my goodbyes so I could go home and contact an old friend. She was a witch and had a vast knowledge of spells and poisons, and I hoped like h*ll she could help.
I was putting my hoodie on when I heard a small gargling sound. I thought I was hearing things, but when I looked at Olivia, she was slowly moving her fingers and I could hear the gargling coming from her throat and tubes. Without a second thought I pounded the help button on her bedside, and sat next to her and grabbed her hand. The nurse came in seconds later and I moved out of the way to give her room.
Her eyes fluttered and the gurgling increased. They slowly removed the feeding tube, trying not to rattle her or force her awake faster. She opened her eyes slowly, blinking because of the sterile hospital lights above her. She tried to speak, but her words came out as a gargle.
"Don't speak. You've been through a lot, Olivia. Just rest." The nurse soothed her and put her hands on her shoulders gently to keep her from trying to get up.
Olivia nodded and looked at me. I sat down next to her and grabbed her hands as she reached out for me. Her questioning look gave me a twinge in my stomach. This poor girl had already been through so much. I rubbed her hands and looked her in the eyes.
"You've been out for a week. They had you hooked up to all this to keep you alive. Whatever was in your wound was nasty stuff and made you very sick. But you're back, and you're safe. That's all that matters." I saw a single tear run down her face, and I moved to sit next to her on the bed. I wrapped my arms around her and she rested her head on my shoulder. I could hear her gargled sobs and I kissed her forehead and stroked her hair. This would be the last time anyone would ever hurt her. If I had to k*ll them all, I will.
When she had cried it out, she fell asleep on my shoulder and I adjusted to climb into the bed next to her to keep her company. She snuggled herself into me and before I knew it I was out too. I didn't realize how tired I was.
I woke up when the nurses came in to check on her and do some tests now that she was awake. I took that opportunity to go get some supper and came back up to sit with her so she wouldn't be alone. When I finished eating, she patted the bed next to her for me to join her. I winked at her as I climbed in next to her and she responded by rolling her eyes to say "As if". She cuddled up next to me and we were both out in a matter of minutes.
We woke the next morning to the door being flung open and a very angry Xander burst through the door. This would be a long day, of that I was very sure. The confused look on Olivia's face only confirmed she didn't recognize him.
"What the h*ll are you doing in bed with my mate, Adam???!! Give me one good reason why I shouldn't k*ll you where you sit!"
