Alpha Demetrius

I slowly opened the closet door enough to see Adam standing in the middle of the room rubbing his neck. I opened the door the rest of the way and crossed my arms over my chest. His nose had been re-set, but the bruising around his nose and under his eyes looked painful. "What does he want? Sorry about your face." "I'm not sure, he used his Alpha tone on Addy and she had to tell him you were here. He didn't ask what you were, but I'm sure he wants to know why they're allowing us to stay here. Don't apologize, I was a jerk." I walked out of the room after Adam, pulling my shoulders back and doing my best to look tough or at least confident. I could see the back of the Alpha in the living room standing next to the couch. I knew Alpha Demetrius when I was younger, his parents were good allies of my pack. I knew he was good friends with Marcus, so I was not sure what to expect with his visit. He turned towards me and I was pleasantly surprised. He had definitely aged well. His messy black hair brought out the emerald color of his eyes. He had a masculine jawline, and his goatee suited him well. Dressed in a light blue button up shirt and black dress pants, and his shirt hugging the bulging muscles underneath. He grinned at me, showing off perfect pearly white teeth. "So. Adam this is the fox that busted your nose, huh? Nice to see you again, Olivia. You look fantastic." He walked towards me, grabbing my hand and kissing the top of it gently. A growl grabbed my attention from my left, and I looked over to see Adam on his feet glaring at Demetrius. "Oh calm down, Adam. I'm not going to hurt her." Demetrius turned back towards me and winked. "Now. What brings you to my pack, Olivia?" I hesitated, looking at Adam and the siblings. They were silent, avoiding my eyes and I could tell I was on my own with this one. I squared my shoulders and looked Demetrius square in the eyes. It was time for things to move, and if that meant being exposed, at this point, so be it. "I'm going to take my pack back. I'm going to challenge Marcus for what is rightfully mine, and I'm going to k*ll him without mercy, like he did my parents." Demetrius rubbed one hand on his chin and raised an eyebrow at me. "That's a hefty accusation, Olivia. Do you have proof he was involved?" "The night of my first shift, the man I saw smelled heavily of cinnamon and chocolate. When Marcus came and found my parents were d*ad, he grabbed me by my neck and I got the same smell from him. It was not as strong, but it was enough I knew he had contact with whoever k*lled my parents." "That scent could have lingered from whoever you saw and you just caught it with the movement. Do you have any solid proof?" I growled lowly at him, glaring and I could feel Aly pushing to take over. "No, but I don't think it's a coincidence that his first order of business was banishing me and taking over as Alpha. It was planned, and he's the logical one to be involved." "I know who you are, Olivia. Your eyes are a dead giveaway. I'm not going to sell you out. I have to admit, I was coming here in hopes you were my mate. I haven't seen you since you came of age, and I have not yet found my mate." He reached for my hand and laced his fingertips with mine.  I gently removed my hand and faked a smile at him. "I'm sure your mate will be thrilled to find you. You're a great guy, Demetrius." "I'm tired of waiting, Olivia. I'm 23, an Alpha, and mate-less. I think you and I could do great things together, with you being an Alpha yourself. You are a wise choice for a Luna for this pack." My mouth fell open. I didn't want a mate in the first place, let alone a chosen one. If I did find my mate, so be it, but I wouldn't sacrifice that for a chosen mate. "I'm sorry. I can't accept your proposal. My situation is messy as it is and I can't make it worse by adding a mate to the mix. Please don't take that the wrong way, it has nothing to do with you." He grabbed my hand again and placed his other hand on top of mine. "I figured as much, but I had to ask anyways. You're a catch, Olivia." "You are as well, I know your mate will be everything you dreamed of when you find her. I hope that's sooner rather than later!" I smiled at him and squeezed his hand. "What's your plan? What's the next step?"  "I am planning on the next week or two. I've been training like mad with these four and I feel I'm almost ready. I want my pack back in my control before the snow flies." I glanced at Adam and the siblings and they looked back at me with worry in their eyes. "Alright, then. I would like to train with you if you'll have me. I have sparred with Marcus many times and I know what his strengths are." He dropped my hand and looked around the room. "I think that would be good, Olivia. Sparring with another Alpha is much more challenging than sparring with us." Adam came to stand next to me and put his hand on my shoulder.  "I'll take you up on that offer, but not today. I've already gone a couple hours on the mat with Adam, and you can see how that ended up." I pointed to his face and Adam looked at me, annoyed. "That's fair, I like my nose where it is, thanks. I'll be back tomorrow around dark and we can spar in human form first. We can go onto pack lands and shift to train as well. Olivia, I would like to pledge my allegiance to you once you take him down. I cannot do so before because I don't want him to be aware that you're here." He winked at me one last time and headed towards the door stopping to whisper something to Addy. She looked down and nodded, but I didn't catch what he said. After he left, I looked at everyone sitting in the living room. Shawn spoke up first.  "I was not expecting him to ask you to be his chosen mate. What a curveball." He chuckled and switched off the TV. "That makes two of us. I always thought he was good looking, but the last thing I need right now is a mate to further complicate things. I am in enough of a mess between this whole pack business and King what's-his-face." I plopped down in a chair and rubbed my temples. Addy was quiet, and I turned to look at her. "What did he say to you when he left?" "He said not to let you out of my sight. You are not to go anywhere alone." She looked down at her hands, knowing this wouldn't go over well with me. I growled and glared around at all of them. "I will go where I please, and you will have no say in it. I know the threat coming for me, and you will treat me no different than a male alpha." They avoided my eyes, but said nothing. I let out another growl and walked out of the room. I would not be anyone's burden, and I'm sure as h*ll not going to take orders from anyone else. I went to bed without saying another word to any of them, and they left me alone. Aly had not said anything since Demetrius made his proposal to me, and I didn't pressure her. I know she wanted her mate and not a chosen one, but I could tell she was carefully thinking over the interaction. I fell asleep quickly, and in the middle of the night I woke with a start.
