"What's your story, Olivia. Why is Adam helping you and why are you not the Alpha of the Red Moon pack?" Alex glanced over at me with an eye brow raised.
I walked with Shawn and Alex out to the gym that was off the pool on the back of the apartment building. They decided it would be better to evaluate my fighting skills in human form before seeing my wolf. I was still unsure and confused on what they had meant by their conversation the day before. My wolf was nothing special. Grey is a pretty standard color for a wolf. The only thing different about me is I noticed I have a black tail and a large black moon on the top of my head. My eye color stays the same in my wolf form as well. Usually Alpha males are large black wolves, but Alpha females are not common so I'm not sure what color they are normally.
"My parents were k*lled the night of my first shift. There was one man that I could see, but he vanished using some sort of concoction in a bottle. The Beta, Marcus, showed up with other pack members and accused me of being the one who committed the crimes. My father was already gone when my mother and I were walking towards the trees, and my mother was k*lled while I was shifting and I couldn't save her. Marcus banished me saying I couldn't be trusted and I was responsible for this. I am confident that Marcus was in on it, I could smell the man I saw on him when he grabbed me, but I have no proof and no way to find that man. As for Adam, he found me on neutral lands and we've been travelling together since. Not sure why he wants to help me." I ran my hands through my hair and sat on a weight bench to change my shoes.
The equipment was around the outside of the gym and included about any machine you could ask for. The center was a large empty area with mats for sparring. I pulled my worn sandals off and pulled on socks and my worn out Adidas shoes. They had plenty of life still in them, and I couldn't throw them out just yet.
Alex and Shawn pulled off their hoodies and threw them on a weight rack. They were both massive wolves, standing at about 6'5" and weighing probably around 240 each. Pure muscle from top to bottom. Shawn had short spiky blonde hair and bright blue eyes, while Alex had dark brown loose curls to his shoulders and the same bright blue eyes. Sparring with them could be interesting, considering I'm all of about 5'4" and 125lbs soaking wet.
Shawn sat next to me. "That's pretty crazy. I wonder who's behind all of that. Adam's a great guy, though I still want to kill him for what he did to my sister. I still like him, can't really help that."
My eyes met his. I was right, I definitely saw something between those two. "What did he do? To your sister, I mean."
"They dated for a long time, and were pretty serious. It was all kid stuff, they met when they were teenagers when our packs got together to train. It ended badly when Adam had thought he found his mate within his own pack. He felt a pull towards the girl and decided not to chance it keeping things going with my sister. She ended up not being his mate when he came of age, but the damage was done and my sister's heart was broken. She refused to take him back, but still wants to be friends with him."
"I thought I saw something between them yesterday when we got here. She's pretty good at hiding her feelings though." I stood up and took off my black Nike hoodie, throwing it with theirs on the weight rack. "So who's a*s am I kicking first?" I stood in the center of the mat in my black sports bra and black leggings. My hair in a messy bun on top of my head.
Alex snorted, walking towards me. "Yeah ok, princess. We will see about that."
"That's Alpha to you, sir." I stared at my nails as he approached and glanced up at him to see him crouch down into a fighting stance.
Aly growled in anticipation in my head. I was going to need her strength and speed, I was absolutely sure of that. These two were big and I'm sure not nearly as quick as I am. My alpha blood would certainly help, but it isn't a guarantee I would beat them.
We circled around each other, both crouched low and analyzing the other. I watched for any sign he was going to lunge, but he stayed back. Waiting for me to make the first move. I faked a kick to the left and launched my right leg towards his side. I connected and heard him exhale sharply, but he turned and grabbed for my leg and I wasn't quick enough to retract it. He heaved me upwards and onto my back, jumping to straddle me and grabbed one giant hand around my neck. I grabbed the fingertips of his hand around my neck and bent backwards sharp enough for him to release me, and sent my other fist swinging for his Adam's Apple. He leaned back enough for my fist to barely miss him, and grabbed my elbow and twisted, causing me to twist halfway onto my stomach to avoid him breaking my arm. I knew I was done for, so I reached back and tapped his leg to signal I give up.
"I figured you would put up a bigger fight than that, princess." He smirked at me.
"Yeah, well. I guess we're both disappointed then." I turned toward Shawn. "You're up, big boy."
"I don't want to hurt your feelings more. Maybe next time." He sat down on the weight bench and leaned back as if to solidify he was really not going to spar with me.
"Fine." I huffed and turned towards Alex. "You will show me how the h*ll to get out of that hold you just put me in."
"Well ok if you're going to be stubborn about it." He crouched down low again into a fight stance.
Two hours later and I easily could escape him towering over me with his hand around my neck. I was dripping in sweat and out of breath, but finally feeling a little better about my skills. I hated feeling weak or that I couldn't protect myself. This training was definitely more intense than any training back home or even with Adam.
Adam came sauntering in and sat by Shawn on the bench. Watching intently he mumbled encouragement as Alex began to coach me with other moves and how to escape different holds by your opponent. I could see out of the corner of my eye him and Shawn leaning forward and intently whispering and they both shouted out encouragements and praise when I succeeded in getting out of a hold.
We finally stopped when we both were drenched in sweat and exhausted. He stood up and extended his hand to help me up and I grabbed it gratefully. Shawn tossed us both a water bottle and Adam handed us towels to dry off. I chugged most of the water and poured the last little bit over my head to help me cool off.
This was going to be a lot harder than I thought. I was one of the best warriors back home, but I was still young and realizing very quickly that our training was nothing compared to other packs. Aly huffed in my head and my implying we were weak.
'Speak for yourself. You should have let me help or let me have him. He wouldn't have stood a chance.'
'I wanted to see how well I would do without you. I may have to defend myself on my own someday and I don't want to risk not being able to defend myself.' She whined a little at the thought and I shook my head.
Adam clapped me on the back. "You did great, let's go get some food in you."
"That sounds amazing. I'm starving." I grabbed my clothes after changing my shoes and we headed back to the apartment to shower and eat. I would need them all to help me train, and I planned on asking over supper. There was no way I was going to lose my pack a second time.
