She's Escaped

1135 Words
I've been locked up for over a week, and both Aly and I were going stir crazy. No one but the alpha and the beta were allowed to come in to see me, along with the warriors who brought my food. I was told they were checking out my story, but Marcus was claiming I went crazy on my first shift, and that I'm not to be trusted. They couldn't trust me, and I understood why. Marcus could be very persuasive. They fed me well, three square meals a day and water when I needed it. I could tell they were still on the fence about me, but dared not to mistreat me in case I had a pack looking for me. The regular warrior who brought my food was less than friendly, but was never rude. He was tall and broad shoulders. His black hair and electric blue eyes made him menacingly attractive. He was marked and I was sure they did that on purpose so I couldn't seduce my way out. They were smart, I'll give them that. They only required the silver shackles to escort me to the bathroom three times a day, which I was grateful for. I started to form a plan in my mind, with Aly's help. A couple days that week, a different warrior brought my meals. A female who was a few inches taller than me, her body rippled with muscles, and tanned skin gave her a foreboding look. I'm sure she was a formidable opponent in a fight. Her black hair was always in a braid and her eyes were a deep chocolate brown. Her lips were always pulled into a tight line and she never spoke to me. I kept my eyes open, waiting for a slip up or for them to get too comfortable. They had started to relax around me since I seemed harmless enough. In the dark of night when no one came to check on us, I trained as best as I could. Pull ups from the bars on the window, situps and a ton of shadow boxing. The man in the cell down from mine watched silently, which didn't really creep me out, honestly. I'm sure I was a sight to see, battling my demons in my cell. I made sure to finish all the food they brought me, I would need my strength if I was going to take that warrior down. I would also need the strength to bust through the doors and make it to the trees behind the pack house before anyone noticed. Three days later and I finally got my opportunity. She brought my food into my cell and made a grave mistake when she turned her back on me to leave. Acting quickly, I wrapped one hand around her throat, using my other to grab the knife at her side and throwing it behind us. I clamped my hand over her mouth stifling a scream. Her breath became erratic as she tried to throw any elbow or kick backwards at me but she was no match for my strength. I gripped my arm tighter until the flailing stopped. I didn't want to kill her, just make her pass out. After checking for a pulse, I grabbed the sandwich off the plate and shoved it in my bag which sat in the aisle of the cells. I threw the bag over my shoulder and jogged to the door. I couldn't believe my luck, she had left one open when she came down. Peeking nervously and seeing no one outside I sniffed the air cautiously. There was someone coming but it was off to the right. I sprinted left into the trees and stopped only to rip my clothes off to shift. I stuffed them in my bag and willed Aly to come forward. She pushed through and I felt my bones cracking and dropped to my knees. Much less painful than last time. She grabbed my bag in her teeth and sprinted into the woods as fast as her legs would go. Hearing shouting behind us, she pushed even harder and we ran for almost 4 miles before hitting the pack border. We heard twigs snapping and the thundering of feet behind us, and Aly took a running leap at the border. There was no scent change, so this had to be neutral lands. That can be just as dangerous if they decided to pursue us. Aly glanced behind her to see that brown wolf and two others standing at the border snarling in my direction. She faced forward and pushed her legs harder to put distance in between. We would be safe in the neutral lands, but for how long? There are more than likely other wolves with no pack or rogues here. About two miles into the neutral lands, Aly slowed to a jog. I didn't smell anyone else, so I focused on shifting back. Once back in my human form, I took fresh clothes out of my bag and pulled them on. I rarely wore anything but leggings and workout clothes back home, so that was all they packed for me. Pulling the black Nike hat over my head, I started walking to find somewhere to sleep. It was going to be dark soon, and it won't be restful. I had found a nice little dugout on the side of the river that ran through the lands and it wouldn't need much altering for it to be livable. I sat on the large rock inside the cave and watched as the fish swam by and enjoyed the crushed sandwich I had stuffed in my bag. I couldn't help but let my mind wander to my parents and my pack. I missed them terribly. What if they could see me now? Would they know it wasn't my fault? Sometimes when I'm dreaming I see my parents, their faces contorted with rage. Yelling awful things at me and saying it's my fault they were dead. I knew that wouldn't be the case, my parents were way too kind for that. It didn't make it hurt any less, however. But what about Marcus? I thought he was loyal to my father, and in the end I'm sure he had something to do with this whole mess. My eyes filled with hot tears that spilled into my lap. Besides my nightmares I hadn't really allowed myself to grieve, and sitting here eating a sandwich in a tiny cave by myself just seemed to be the last straw. I let the tears fall and heart wrenching sobs racked my body. I cried until I had nothing left and my eyes and nose were raw. I fell into a light sleep only to be shaken awake moments later.
