Katherine’s POV The house was quiet, almost unnervingly so. I sat at the kitchen table, staring blankly at the cup of coffee that had gone cold. The steam had long faded, but I didn’t care. I hadn’t touched it anyway. My mind was too full to focus on anything small like that. Adrian. His name kept creeping back into my thoughts no matter how much I tried to push it away. It had been days since I saw him standing on my doorstep, and I’d slammed the door in his face. And yet, he haunted me. Every single day. I heard footsteps, light but sure, coming from the living room. Charlotte appeared in the doorway, her expression a mix of concern and something else I couldn’t quite place. She was holding her phone, but her eyes were on me. I sighed, already knowing what she was going to say.
