Not like this. “I—I can't just sack her," I started, choosing my words carefully. “Katherine is... an important part of the team. She's working on a project that’s crucial for the company right now.” Vera's eyes narrowed, her jaw tightening. “So, this project is more important than me?” she hissed. Yes. I wanted to say. “It's not like that,” I shot back quickly. Dad, you know how important this deal with the investors is.” “Katherine’s been the one handling all the details. If I fire her now, it could mess everything up. We could lose millions.” My father's frown deepened, and he glanced at me, clearly thinking it over.
