I did it. I finished my first day at work without messing up a single thing. Brad looked very pleased with his decision—especially when I managed to get the water cleaned up by hiring a local carpet-cleaning company.
While they worked, I had to tell everyone who began to arrive that we had a small problem and that today’s open house wouldn’t be going forward. A lot of them weren’t happy, but honestly, what were we supposed to do—let them inside while the floor was still wet?
Brad was even more stressed than he’d been this morning, especially when his plumber arrived. I’m pretty sure the man regretted coming to work today with the chewing-out Brad gave him. Even though it probably wasn’t his fault, he took the blame anyway.
