CHAPTER NINE
Taking a Risk“Stop!” Hana held her breath as Sam screeched the car to a halt.
“What?” He spun around to face her, his eyes wide with alarm.
She swallowed and readied herself to apologise. “I can’t do it.” She shook her head. “I can’t leave Sacha in a field of cows miles away from home. She doesn’t deserve that. Pull over just up there and I’ll fetch her. I’m sorry.”
Sam closed his eyes and paused long enough for Hana to wonder if he counted to ten in his head. His jaw worked in his face and then he opened his eyes and his expression appeared calm. “I’ll take Mac home and meet you there.”
