CHAPTER FORTY TakenHana spent the evening helping Leslie wind a mess of skein into balls neat enough to knit with. Its representation of her messy situation silenced her on the matter of Che’s visit. Leslie had curbed her opinion of Logan as promised and Hana wanted to do nothing to stoke the latent fire again. The children played a board game with Alfred and dined on food filched from the hotel’s industrial kitchen. Hana wound the wool and listened to the children’s giggles. “Ooh, Macky, no! Don’t eat that.” Phoenix tussled with her brother and winced as Mac spat the black counter into her palm. When he glanced across at Hana with a mischievous glint in his eyes, she gave a slow shake of her head in reprimand. Mac clambered into Alfred’s lap and contented himself with sucking his thumb
