My thumb hovered over the image. Aurora’s glowing face, the ultrasound with its tiny, impossible promise. And then the second photo. Them. Their foreheads pressed together in an intimate way that used to belong to Dave and me. He would cuddle me that way when the world felt too heavy for me. ​ I stared at the screen until the images blurred into nothing. ​ Sage’s phone slipped from my hand to the countertop. ​ “It can’t be,” I mumbled as my eyes began to get blurry with tears. Yes, I was aware of the betrayal. Yes, I knew the duo were terrible people. Yes, I told Dave to stay the hell away from me. I wanted him to suffer, but here they are, throwing it all in my face. They did me dirty, and yet, they are proud of their actions. ​ I had no idea when hot tears rolled down my cheeks.
