“This is pointless; we can never outrun them,” I stated, as a matter of fact.
Not looking back, Elijah answered, “Well, at least we tried.”
We shoved past people toward the exit, and surely there was a door. We rushed and practically ripped it open; the bright light coming from the moon greeted us as soon as we stepped out, and then we bolted. We kept running until we reached the forest; everything was a blur as I dashed through hundreds of trees, trying to be as far away from here as possible. Though, in the pit of our stomachs, we know it is pointless. A werewolf can never stand against a lycan.
But how did they manage to track me down so quickly? I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not hear Elijah's warnings, and before I knew it, something jumped on me.
I am going to die.
“Alana!”
Suddenly, I snapped. I spun, my body moving away as fast as it possibly could. I panted as I dodged out of the way, landing on my bottom on the wet and earthy ground. There, at my previous spot, was the creature that has haunted people in their sleep, a nightmare to the majority. Its back turned toward me as I gaped at it, frightened yet in awe. With sharp and long claws that could rip anything to pieces and dark and luscious brown fur surrounding its bulky physique, which stood at least seven feet, a lycan, in its fullest form, is a mixture of both a human and a wolf. Mere werewolves can never withstand them; they are superior for a reason. We cannot do anything now; it is over. I am really going to die.
In a heartbeat, its body turned to move, stalking towards me. I closed my eyes, finally accepting my fate, only to open them again as Elijah rushed in front of me, fully blocking my view of the creature. He was gone as fast as he came, though, as the creature practically hurled him into the air, landing on the ground with a loud thud.
“Elijah!” I moved to run but stopped in my tracks as I heard a low growl, giving a warning.
The creature suddenly got closer as its claws grew even longer; now it stood just a few inches away from me. I tried to take a step back, only to collide with a tree.
I am trapped.
My eyes grew wide as gigantic paw-like hands enveloped my neck, giving it a tight squeeze. Narrowed and crazed orbs that swirl in the color of midnight stared back at me as I felt their claws dig into my skin, and I screamed. I made no effort to fight back because it was useless.
This is it; goodbye, cheeseburgers.
A loud howl erupted in the distance, followed by a terrifying growl that shook the entire forest, but the sound was definitely not coming from the Lycan in front of me. It all happened so fast, and the next thing I know, the lycan is now being thrown mid-air by another lycan that is much bigger compared to the previous one.
What the hell?
It let out a loud whimper as it hit the ground, looking at the one who threw itself in mid-air in almost disbelief and me doing the same.
Standing eight feet tall was the most fascinating creature that I have ever seen. It has an effect on me like nothing else in the world. Ravishing charcoal-colored fur surrounded its enormous and muscular body; this one does not even compare to the dark-brown one. Out of nowhere, I felt my wolf awaken, and then she became restless; she was trying to say something to me again but she couldn’t. I still have Wolfsbane in my system.
Strangely, I felt a force pulling me toward something. I looked up, and there it was—a pair of green orbs staring deep into my soul. It felt like the world had stopped in slow motion; there were only the two of us, lost in each other’s eyes, mine to his, and his to mine.
Mine
I felt my eyes widen; the air was knocked out of my lungs for a second as I realized who this person is. It made me stop in my trance; no, it can’t be. I do not want this; I don’t deserve this.
It stalked towards me; my attention was all turned to him and far away from my thoughts. His once green orbs were slowly turning to midnight black, and its face was filled with tension as it looked down on me and came to a halt towards my neck. I let out an involuntary whimper, which surprises me. I suddenly have this deep longing to see his green eyes again. The sound made him snap, and, as if gaining back control, his eyes changed into their green ones again.
It approaches me slowly and stops a few inches away from my body; it towers over me and traps me in between its body and the tree. I made no restraint as it proceeded to bury its nose in my hair, breathing in my scent and letting out a deep sigh. Its once erratic breath calmed down into a normal one. I closed my eyes, liking the feeling of our closeness.
We stayed like that for almost an eternity, him just breathing into my scent and being satisfied with our bodies against each other. I did not pay attention to the sound of bones snapping and the once fur changing into skin, which was warm and inviting.
Then my eyes flew open, and I pushed him away, my palms now at his glorious pecks. I felt like I was staring into an artwork; the man in front of me looks like a walking Adonis, a freaking Greek god. He was huge, at least six feet and five inches tall, with broad shoulders down to his glorious pecks and his perfectly sculpted eight-pack abs. As if his body were not distracting enough, his face was just everything, so perfect. A sharp jawline with just enough stubble, a dimpled chin, a long, immaculate nose, and his eyes, a perfect emerald green with tiny streaks of blue and luscious lashes, are overshadowed by his thick and exquisite brows. He looks dangerous yet the sexiest thing ever. My eyes stopped at his lips; an energy kept pushing me to seal it with mine, but I wouldn’t.
I will never.
He looked shocked by the sudden force, and then his eyes narrowed. He grabbed a hold of my waist and, in a swift movement, pulled me towards him. His eyes locked on mine.
“Never do that again,” he stated, in a deep and velvety voice.
I raised an eyebrow, and I refused to submit. “I will do whatever I want,” I announced, pulling away and putting a decent distance between us. My body was betraying me; it wanted to be near him, but I am in control.
His eyes narrowed. “Do not provoke me, mate.”
I moved my head to the side, regretting it almost in an instant. His eyes softened in concern as my face turned into a grimace, and then we were close again, and this time I did not pull away, occupied with the pain coming from my neck. His eyes carefully scanned my wounds.
“Hold still,”
He then, proceeded to lick it, an intrusive moan went past my lips whick made him stop in his track
