Chapter 3
As I took my time drying my hair, I tied it into a sloppy bun. I wore black trousers, a white tank top, and Snickers without applying any makeup. When I got downstairs, I was greeted with a wonderful perfume that smelt heavenly. Ah... My passion for eating.
"Good morning," I said as I kissed my mother and father on the cheek. I looked at the meal on the table: toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, and coffee, of course.
" Mhm," I hummed, my mouth watering, anxious to load myself.
"What time are we going to the Jenkins?" I inquired of my mother while eating.
"Around 6 sweetie and swallow before you talk" she said.
"Yes, ma," I saluted, making my brother and father chuckle and shake their heads.
"You know how Sophia is mum, you can literally kidnap her with food" Ethan replied. I poked him with my tongue, which he returned as we began making faces at each other while our parents laughed.
Bella chose a crimson dress with lace around the neck area for me when I was finally ready. It caressed my body from every angle and had a slit from my knees down; my hair was tied in a low bun with some strands falling on my face, making my red hair look deeper than ever. After a perfectly done hair and makeup, a Smokey eyes with a red lipstick made me daring and ready to go.
"You definitely look hot, too bad I don't swing the other way but damn girl...." Bella was grinning at me. "I'm so sure you're going to blow his mind away" .
"Thanks to you, thou I doubt I'll be blowing anyone's mind out" . I said this while smiling.
" I'm sure you would, you still haven't told me the name of the guy," she added, lightly shoving me, "like seriously, you had an entire week to tell me about the marriage but decided to tell me last night," she groaned dramatically.
"I know, I'm sorry. I just needed a moment to wrap my head around it and get use to the idea of getting married to a total stranger" .
"I get it, but you need to tell me the details when you get back, love you babe" she said.
"I love you too, babe, and thanks again for the transformation," I said to her departing figure, halting her on her path.
"No mention babe, you are a natural beauty," she replied, kissing me on the cheek, "talk to ya later."
I gathered my phone and other belongings, slid into my silver stilettos and stopped to inspect myself in the mirror before heading out of the room.
The ride to our destination was filled with awkward silence, and I refused to say anything. Even when my mother complimented me on how beautiful I looked, all I could manage was a grumbled "thank you." To say I was nervous would be an understatement; I couldn't stop wondering who he was and what he looked like, and even when I was handed his image, I couldn't bring myself to look at it.
My mental conflict was interrupted when my father announced our arrival; I turned to gaze out the window and was astounded by what I saw. Calling it a house is an understatement; our house was more akin to a mansion, but this takes the cake. It was more of a castle because it was tall, slender, and bizarrely gorgeous.
When the chauffeur arrived to pick up my father's car, we were taken to the front door, which was greeted by a lady in her fifties with grey hair and a welcome grin.
"Hello, you must be the Dixons, my name is Selena, please come in," she added with a smile on her face.
"Thank you so much, Selena," my mother answered, and my father nodded in agreement as my brother and I smiled at her.
She led us to a large room, which I assumed was the sitting room, and we sat, ignoring her offer of refreshments because I was nervous.
We turned towards the stairs when we heard light footfall coming down, a woman nearly the same age as Selena came into view, she looked kind of familiar but I couldn't pinpoint where I said her from and I shrugged it off due to nervousness that was building up due to suspense.
" Mia, it's so good to see you again," my mother remarked as she stood up to hug her like they were old friends.
"I missed you too," the woman, I assume Mrs. Jenkins, replied with a smile that reached her eyes, she turned to my dad and pulled him into a hug that he accepted with a smile that shocked me because I've never seen my dad like this except with families, I turned to my brother to see if he could see what I was seeing or if my eyes were playing tricks on me, but my brother didn't seem shocked like I was instead he looked so happy.
Okay, what the hell is going on here? I appear to be missing something.
I couldn't help but assume they were hiding something from me, and all I could think about was what it was.
We were ushered to the dining room for dinner after saying our goodbyes to Mia, which included my brother getting bone crushing hugs and Mia complimenting me on how beautiful I looked.
The meal was awkward.
Well, at least for me, because everyone else seemed to be having a good time except for me, as I battle with myself while picking on my food, which, although being excellent, I couldn't stop worrying about what this marriage would bring and how unprepared I am, only engaging in on the conversation when directed to me.
"I'm so sorry Zachary couldn't join us for dinner; he had to attend a meeting in Italy and won't be back for three weeks; he sent his apology," Mia said, an apology smile on her face.
