Chapter 5
I dropped my phone on the dresser opposite my bed and was dragged into a dreamland.
The dazzling ray of sunlight on my face startled me up, and I grumbled loudly when I realised I hadn't closed the drapes before going to bed.
Now that I was awake, I couldn't help but think about how my life was about to an end because it was my wedding day. I decided to freshen up and wait for the makeup artist and those involved in my preparation.
The makeup artist had done a great job on my face, and my gown couldn't have looked more gorgeous and magnificent, but I couldn't get myself to smile even a little.
I was left alone in the room after getting ready.
The wedding was held at the Jenkins Family Church, and the reception was held at the Hill's Hotel, which is one of the largest hotels in town, and I didn't expect anything less given that they were all opposed to my concept of having a small wedding.
My mother and Mia wanted the best for me.
A quiet knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.
"Hey munchkin," my brother remarked as he entered the room, his smile making girls melt at his feet.
He was dressed in a navy blue suit with a black tie, and his hair was gelled backward, highlighting his eyes.
"Hey Ethan," I murmured softly, tears streaming down my cheeks.
" I know you don't want it, but the Jenkins are good people, and I know Zachary will take good care of you."
Sophia, I'll take care of you."
"I feel like I'm making the biggest mistake of my life," I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes.
I've been keeping these for far too long, and I think I've hit my limit.
"You're not making the biggest mistake of your life, that I can assure you" .
"You're just saying that because you're my brother," I rolled my eyes at him.
"No I'm saying that because you need to hear the truth, I Know the Jenkins and I know Zachary, I'm not really a fan of him but I trust him when it comes to you and I know he is going to take good care of you munchkin" .
"How can you be so sure" .
Avoid eye contact because "he doesn't seem like a bad person and I may or may not have threatened him not to harm you."
"Ethan," I shouted accusingly.
" What?" He inquired, his brow furrowed.
"Why would you do that?" I questioned, feigning surprise, but silently pleased.
Ethan can be terrifying when he wants to be, especially when threatening someone. I've seen firsthand how terrifying he can be, which is one of the reasons I've never had a long-term boyfriend.
"You're my little sister, and I won't let anyone hurt you," he stated solemnly and sincerely.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," I joked, rolling my eyes. "You're the best best brother in the entire world and my only brother," I joked, smirking at him.
" You're fortunate." "I love you, munchkin," he continued, attempting to touch my hair as I glared at him and swatted his hand away.
"Don't you dare and you're my brother of course you have to love me" .
" Yeah, whatever." "Come here," he urged, throwing his arms wide, and I jumped right into the comfort of his arms.
" Please know that you are doing Dad and all of us a big favour. "I hope you know how proud I am of you, Sophia," he murmured softly while kissing the top of my head.
"I love you, Ethan," I said with a faint smile and gripped him harder, causing him to giggle quietly.
A knock on the door disturbed our sibling relationship, and when we pulled apart, we spotted our father.
"Are you ready, Princess?" he inquired.
"Yes, dad," I replied. I couldn't help but notice the gleam of admiration in his eyes.
I knew I was close to my mother, but I couldn't deny that I was daddy's little girl.
"You look very beautiful, my baby girl is all grown up." I could see tears in his eyes as he said this with a smile.
"Are you crying, Dad?" I said, a little worried.
"They are tears of joy love, I'm just so happy and grateful, thank you love for helping me out" .
And all of a sudden, all of my rage evaporated; I knew there was another reason they were marrying me off, and it had nothing to do with the bankruptcy nonsense they told me; I just wanted they would trust me enough to tell me the truth.
"I love you, Dad," I whispered softly as I gripped him tightly, fighting back tears. I'm going to miss my family terribly because I won't be able to see them very often.
"Are you ready?" my mother asked, dressed in a blue floor-length gown and looking stunning as usual.
"Hey mum," I said as I turned to face my mother, and I saw tears in her eyes, which made me chuckle.
Mum was usually the most emotional member of the family, breaking down at every little thing.
"I'm sorry, honey, I'm just so emotional right now," she said, lightly blotting her eyes to avoid ruining her makeup.
"I know, but I'm getting married, not dying, mum," I chuckled.
" Don't mind me, I know love." "You are simply stunning, dear," she exclaimed.
"I just can't believe my princess is getting married today"
" Come on, mum, you as well. "Are you going to cry like a baby like your father?" I joked.
" Hey! "I was a little emotional as well," my father said.
I hugged my mother, and then we all gathered for a group hug before heading outside to where our driver was waiting with the car.
Bella offered me a huge smile, a strong hug, and a brief "I love you" before pulling out her phone to take a picture of me and her, telling me how beautiful I looked before moving to stand next to my mother.
