Dave had Ryan in his arms, watching the little boy giggle and play with his tie, when his phone buzzed in his pocket. Glancing at the screen, he saw that it was Mira. He answered, balancing Ryan in one arm.
"Hey, is everything okay?"
"No problem," Mira replied, her voice bright and casual. "I just wanted to ask if you could come with me to visit my mom tonight. She just got back from her trip, and I really want her to meet my fiancé. She’s been asking about you."
Dave paused, unsure how to respond. He hadn’t expected such a sudden request. He glanced at Ryan, still absorbed in his new wristwatch, and Cassidy sitting nearby, watching him with an unreadable expression. "I’ll call you back about that, Mira," Dave said finally. He needed time to think about it.
