Dave tried calling the number that had texted him earlier, but it went straight to voicemail. He frowned, hung up, and then immediately redialed. The same thing happened again.
"Not available," he muttered under his breath, frustrated. After a few more attempts, he gave up and walked toward the kitchen where Mira and Cassidy were preparing dinner.
"Everything okay?" Mira asked as Dave joined them, clearly sensing his agitation.
"Yeah, just a call I can't get through," Dave said, dismissing it with a wave of his hand. "Anything I can do to help?"
Mira nodded toward the vegetables on the counter. "You can chop those."
