Chapter 132

1064 Words

Dave sat in his car, the engine idling softly as he stared at the dashboard. He had been sitting there for almost an hour, contemplating whether to drive to Nova's house or just stay where he was. His fingers drummed absently on the steering wheel, but his mind was elsewhere. The thought of seeing Nova filled him with a different type of despair. But more than that, he couldn’t stop thinking about Cassidy. Cassidy had been the center of his world, and now she was slipping through his fingers. What made it worse was what Cassidy’s mother had told him, that she was no longer troubled, no longer seeking Dave’s presence. She was happy with Nova. That truth weighed him down, making every thought feel heavy. He exhaled slowly, then opened the car door, stepping out into the warm evening air.
