Alicia walks down the hallway leading to her office in anger avoiding interactions with people so she won't break down. Walking into her office, tears rolled down her face thinking back to the incident that just occurred.
“Who does he think he is to tell me who i will get married to?” Alicia said angrily to herself.
“I am old enough to choose a husband for myself and I refuse to let anyone make that choice for me,” Alicia said angrily as she was about to trash her table when a knock interrupted her.
“Come in” she said as she wiped her tears harshly.
Watching her assistant walk in with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolate, curiosity overcame her.
“Ma’am someone brought this for you” Jack said, keeping the flowers and chocolate on her table.
Seeing the flowers made her more angry sensing it was her least favorite and who the hell would send her chocolates?, she doesn't even eat them.
“Is there a note or something to these?” She asked looking through the flowers for a note.
“Ah yes,” Jack said, digging through his pockets,” it was delivered while you were in the meeting with your father, here is the note.”
“Thank you, you may leave,” Alicia said, taking the note from him.
Alicia opened the note instantly regretting taking it in the first place. Recognizing her ex lover's handwriting on the note brought tears to her eyes.
Dear Alicia,
I got you your favorite flowers and chocolate to apologize to you because of what you saw. I promise it will never happen again, please call me soon so we can talk.
Daniel.
Tears ran down Alicia's face as she read the note over and over again. Her relationship with Daniel may not have been the best but him not knowing the basic things about her like her favorite flowers tore her apart. Trashing the note, she walked out of her office with the flowers and chocolate in her hand.
“Here, you can have this,” she said, handing them over to the cleaning woman on her floor.
“Really?” She asked with a slight smile on her face.
“Yes really” Alicia said with a grin keeping it in her hands.
“Thank you so much ma” the woman said to her.
Nodding her head in response, Alicia walked back to her office to continue the day.
Walking into the house, Alicia was immediately stopped by the butler to take her coat and bag from her.
“George, you don't have to worry, I can do all these myself,” she said while taking off her coat.
“I know you can Ms. Alicia but it is my job to do it” he responded, taking the coat from her hands and hanging it on the coat hanger by the door.
“It might be your job but these are simple things I can do myself so why stress someone else over simple tasks?” Alicia retorted.
“Okay i have heard you, how was your day at the office today?”
“It was stressful as usual but thanks for your concern,” Alicia said, making her way to the stairs leading to her room.
“Alright, your father requested you have dinner with him. He is in his study now but dinner will soon be ready.”
Nodding, Alicia made her way to her room thinking of possible ways dinner with her father could go. She knew he was still adamant about her getting married to Mr Andrews. A slight blush came on her face at the thought of Mr Andrews, his perfect smooth face, his piercing black eyes that seemed endless in depth and his plump rosy lips.
Shaking herself out of her naughty mind, she walked into her room. Despite being such an attractive man, she still didn't want to marry him because she didn't love him.
But it seems that didn't matter to her father and that dampened her mood the more, he is just so focused on his company getting back on its feet.
Walking down the stairs after freshening up, Alicia could see her father at the dining table already having his dinner.
“Why so adamant about having dinner with me when you can't even wait for me to arrive before you start?” Alicia thought to herself.
“Good evening father” Alicia greeted her father as she got to the table.
“Good evening Alicia, have a seat.”
“Thank you” Alicia said, taking a seat,"I see you already started dinner without me.”
“ You were taking your time freshening up, I couldn't wait, '' her father said.
“Hmmm, I see,” She said, already digging into her meal.
“So what do you think about Mr. Andrews' proposal?”
“I think it is a great opportunity, a lifetime one at that but i don't agree to his condition attached to it”
“Hmmm, I think the same about his proposal, it is one we should not miss out on.”
“Right, so what did you decide to do about it?”Alicia asked her father, nervousness coating her voice.
Her father looked up at her with surprise on his face wondering how she could ask such a question,"I accepted his proposal of course.”
Alicia felt like her whole life had ended as she stared at her father with tears in her eyes.
“Father, please you can't do this to me. I don't know that man nor do I love him” she said with a shaky voice.
“Alicia, this is not about what you want, it is about what is good for our legacy.”
“Why should I sacrifice my happiness for your legacy?” Alicia screamed with tears rolling down her face.
Mr Johnson looked up at his daughter who stared at him with anger in anger” Alicia there is no need to scream or cry about this” he said calmly.
“There is every need to scream father, you want to marry me off to a stranger for your own selfish reasons” Alicia said.
Hearing his daughter call him selfish flipped a switch in Mr Johnson. He felt like he was doing the right thing for them.
“Alicia listen to me carefully, you will be getting married to Mr Andrews and that's final” he said slamming his hands on the table making Alicia flinch in fear.
Alicia watched her father walk out of the room as she broke down wondering how she got to this point.
“How did i even get to this point?” Alicia cried out loud.
