As Alicia came down from her car, she was bombarded with questions from the press.
“Is your father's company really experiencing financial setbacks?”
“What is the reason behind these setbacks?”
“Is the company going bankrupt?”
Alicia was left wondering how the press got hold of the information she got just this morning. The security guards helped to pave way for her as soon as she was inside, her assistant came to her
“Good morning ma'am,” her assistant said.
“Good morning Jack, bring the account reports from the finance department to me now” she said, making her way to the elevator.
Walking out of the elevator, she walked into her office feeling tired though the day just started. She could already tell that today was not going to be a great day for her. Looking out the window, she remembered the scene she walked into yesterday and couldn't help but wonder where she went wrong in her relationship with Daniel that he cheated on her and the fact that he cheated on her with her best friend broke her. A knock on the door brought her out of her thoughts, wiping the stray tears on her face,and she told the person to come in.
“Ma’am, these are the reports you asked for,” Jack said, dropping a file on her desk.
“Thank you Jack, you may go, I will call you if anything else.”
As she went through the file, she could see some changes in the figures that were not there before. Confusion etched on her face as she went through her desk looking for the copy of the last month's report she had but couldn't find it.
Calling her assistant,” come to my office now” she said, ending the call.
A soft knock could be heard across the room.
“Come in,” she said with a firm voice.
“Jack, why can't I find my copy of last month's finance report?” She asked the moment he stepped into the office.
“I am sorry ma'am but I have no idea who did that.”
“Okay, we will sort that out later,now why is there a change in the figures of this report?”
“A change in the figures? I think this is something we have to address to the head manager of the finance department.”
“Right, send him to my office and please get me a cup of coffee, '' she said to him.
Hearing the door close, she leaned back on her seat wondering how her life took a turn in 24 hours,First her cheating boyfriend now the company's financial issues. She was already tired and just wanted this day to end only for her to find out that it is a nightmare but she knew within her heart that this was all reality.
A loud knock on the door increased the migraine she was already feeling and with frustration lacing her voice she asked the person to come in.
“Ma’am, you asked to see me.”
“Yes i did” Sliding the file towards him, she said,”can you explain the changes in the figures.”
“Changes?”, He asked, going through the file,”I have not noticed any changes being done. This file was brought to me the moment I stepped into my office.”
“How can you say that?You are the head manager of the finance department and you are saying you didn't notice any change being done, '' she said, almost screaming at him.
“I understand the situation maam and I promise I and my team are working on it currently,” the manager said, trying to calm Alicia down.
“The damage has been done,we are losing clients because of your incompetent behaviour.” Taking a deep breath she said,” I will send your case to my father to handle. You can go now.”
“ Okay ma’am I am sorry once again for the damages.”
“Go tell him that,” Alicia said with a firm voice.
Watching him leave the door, she groaned for the hundredth time, looking at the file hoping that all her answers were in it. Hearing a knock on the door, Alicia groaned loudly.
“Come in,” Alicia said with a tight voice, “ leave the door open.”
“Ma’am, here is your coffee,” Jack said, handing her the to-go cup,” and your father requests your presence in his office.”
“Alright, you may go,” Alicia said to him.
Taking a sip of the coffee instantly brought a smile to her face because of the relief it gave her. Wondering what her father had to say to her, she picked the file and walked towards the private elevator leading to her father's office. Paranoia filled her in the elevator as different thoughts of what her father had to say to her filled her brain. The loud ding of the elevator opening made her flinch, making her heartbeat skyrocket.
Alicia felt like her heart was in her ear because she could hear her heartbeat clearly, feeling like passing out she took a large gulp of the coffee in her hand to calm herself down. Knocking on the large mahogany door, she could hear distinct voices in the office and wondered what was being discussed and who was in there with her father.
“Alicia you may come in” she heard her father say.
Opening the door, she went in seeing 3 men staring at her but one stood out because she felt she knew that pair of eyes but couldn't remember where she had seen it.
“Hello father you asked for me” Alicia said “ by the way this is from the finance department” she said handing him the file in her hand.
“Yes I did ask for you, please sit. I want to introduce you to these young men,” her father said.
Sitting down, she looked at the young men, her eyes lingering on the man sitting at the window side of the room. She brought her attention back to her father when he nudged her.
“This is Mr Tate” her father said pointing at the man to his right,”Mr Grey” pointing to the man on the side of Mr Tate while pointing towards the man at the window side,”and that is……
“Damien Andrews” the man interrupted Alicia's father,” nice to meet you Ms. Alicia” he said walking towards Alicia.
Alicia's eyes widened at the man's voice instantly remembering where she met him.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Alicia asked in a very rude manner.
