The two children were as surprised as I was and that seemed to make my heart break further.
" You did not bother to tell them that they have an older sister?" I asked her as we walked into the house, the high mood I had once been in now deteriorating to a screeching still.
She fiddled with her hair just like she always did when meeting my stepfather for dinner, the nervousness always reeking of her.
" I thought you were never going to come back. When you left, you took a part of me with you, and you know that.. but I would never be so selfish to ask you to come back if you were never happy here, with me," She said.
