Skyler's diary
September 1st, sunny
Dusk filled the room with the aroma of sizzling steak, the most delicious delicacy in the world, prepared by my father in the kitchen. The laughter of happy neighbors echoed around, everything was as it used to be.
However, ever since my father mentioned that I had a high fever and was hospitalized last time, he suddenly became silent. I don't know if something happened or if I missed something.
The small town was still the same small town, but Skyler White was no longer the same Skyler White because Joshua Wilkinson was gone.
That day was the first day of school, a brand new high school campus, so beautiful. I thought this beauty must be unique to the small town, quiet and friendly, just like Joshua's smile.
However, California University, as Joshua described, must be even more beautiful than this.
I started fantasizing again...
Until now, I still remember Joshua's gentle smile under the sunset, as he intertwined his finger with mine and made a promise.
He said, "I won't just be a passerby in this small town, I'll stay."
He said, "Joshua will stay with Skyler, forever and ever..."
He said, "California University, we'll meet there."
Ha, forever and ever? At that time, I used to play with the lucky bracelet of the neighbor's sister and ask her what “forever” meant. She told me that “forever” meant until the day we’re both dead.
But I knew that forever was until the day Skyler could no longer see Joshua’s smile.
However, we would definitely meet again. For the promise of "we'll meet there," even if I didn't want to leave my father or the small town, even if I hated the hustle and bustle of the city at all, I would still work hard to get into California!
Because, Joshua's promise!
Putting down the pen, I lazily stretched.
I casually picked up the sketch next to me and stared at the girl in the drawing.
Standing in the strawberry field, smiling foolishly, with her skirt fluttering in the wind, a snow-white dress like a princess. Joshua’s painting--My Dear Skyler.
I didn't have this dress, it was specially designed by Joshua and drawn for me. He said that when we met again in the future, he would personally make an identical snow-white dress for me.
Joshua, I would definitely find you. Ready with the dress?
I carefully inserted the sketch into my diary, closed it, held it in my hands, and protected it close to my heart. I looked at the cactus on the windowsill and burst into laughter.
This was a princess dream woven by a boy named Joshua, sweet and beautiful.
Slowly closing my eyes, I leaned my head against the back of the chair. A promise and scattered memories from the past month have made me determined. For the next three years of high school, I would work hard!
I must get into California. I must become better and more deserving of the perfect Joshua!
