Chapter 3

1418 Words
Finally, Skyler waited for the bell to ring after class. The recess bell in California was a familiar and soft "Snowflake". Especially at this moment, Skyler strongly felt that this song was particularly pleasant. Throughout the entire class, she didn't do anything. She didn't know what the teacher was talking about. Her gaze was always fixed on Jason, and she couldn't bear to look away, even if it was uncomfortable. Finally, she saw him again after three years. How could she bear to miss him, even for a minute? After class, the classmates were not very familiar with each other yet, so most of them stayed in their seats and chatted. Skyler suddenly stood up with a big movement, causing the sound of the chair rubbing against the floor to be harsh. She clenched her fists, as if she had become a different person from the timid and weak girl just now. With a determined gaze shining with a daunting light, she walked steadily towards Jason step by step, and then stood in front of him. She took a deep breath, and it felt good. He still exuded the familiar fragrance of rain-soaked grass that made her feel at ease. Hearing the sound, Jason, who had been indulging in the scenery outside the window, turned his head. He didn't reply, but silently looked at the blushing girl in front of him, as transparent as an apple. After a long time, he frowned slightly, and coldly uttered a sentence from his lips, "I don't know you." After saying that, as if afraid that she would pester him, he got up and left without any hesitation, leaving Skyler with an extremely cold back view. He had never liked girls who approached him in such a clichéd way. The excited smile froze on her lips, gradually cooling down. Skyler stood there motionless, her face pale. He said he didn't know her... The girl who had been engraved in her memory for three years, the one with the warm smile she used to love, actually said such words, he didn't know her... Skyler felt lost and confused, her eyes vacant. She struggled to return to her seat, and continued to stare ahead without any focus. This day, the one sentence that had been replaying in her mind countless times was the hellish words, "I don't know you." So, what was the purpose of her three years of effort? Why did she leave her father and come to California? Was she holding onto that promise all these years just for this outcome today? She couldn't give up like this. Even if Jason didn't remember, as long as she remembered, she could help him recall everything! In the end, Skyler firmly made up her mind. She looked up again and smiled at Jason's back across the street, as if the previous setbacks were not discouragement, but encouragement, a summon. Outside the window, the sunset was as dazzling as the day they had agreed on three years ago. School was over, and the classroom was unusually quiet, with almost everyone gone. Skyler secretly looked up and stole a glance at Jason, who was tidying up his things. After hesitating for a long time, until she saw that he had finished organizing and was about to leave with his backpack, Skyler gathered her courage once again and rushed forward, blocking his way with her body. Jason stopped, puzzled. It was her again, what did this girl want to do? Are girls nowadays so shameless? "Do you remember this?" Seeing his impatient expression, Skyler quickly took out a pink bag from her backpack and a string of lucky bracelets. The hurried movements caused her books to scatter all over the floor, but she didn't pay attention and raised the lucky bracelet, saying, "This lucky bracelet was made by you for me." She had always kept this string of lucky bracelets with her, never wearing it for fear of damaging it. Along with her most cherished possession, the pink bag that her mother left behind, she cherished and treasured them together. Under the sunset glow, the bracelet became even more radiant. Jason turned his head and looked at the things in front of him, his gaze softened for a moment, moved by her persistence that didn't seem fake in her eyes. Unfortunately, she used the wrong method and found the wrong person! Just as Skyler thought he remembered something and the smile on her lips gradually widened, suddenly, Jason reached out and mercilessly swatted away her raised hand, knocking off the string of lucky bracelets. He sneered, "Don't approach boys in such a lowly way. Making lucky bracelets for girls, ha... I would never do such a stupid thing!" "Pick it up for her!" Looking at the scattered books on the floor and the broken bracelet, before Skyler could react, a strong female voice rose, filled with deep dissatisfaction. "No time." Jason didn't even bother to turn his head, leaving only this sentence as he casually stepped over the books on the floor and left the classroom. "I didn't expect you to be such a lousy guy, no taste..." In her ears, the girl's indignant voice continued, while some classmates who hadn't left whispered to each other nearby. But Skyler didn't pay attention to them, she just lowered her head, looking at the broken bracelet on the ground. In the blink of an eye, the tears she had held back all day overflowed. Why could he forget everything? To this day, she could still vividly remember that day: under the scorching August sun, he was busy under the tree. Just because she said, "The lucky bracelet of the girl next door is so beautiful," he made one for her with his own hands. He was a young master, even when he came to the small town for a vacation, he had servants following him. Yet, because of her words, he cut his hand with a small knife, and still smiled happily at her, gently handing her the bracelet and softly rubbing her hair. Skyler still remembers the smile under the sunlight that day, it was so bright and radiant, melting her heart. As she grew older, she learned that the lucky necklace she made herself represented the maker's longing, which she always carried with her. But now... Thinking about it, Skyler couldn't hold back her tears any longer, they kept flowing uncontrollably. A white tissue suddenly appeared in front of her, she sniffed her red nose and looked up at the girl next to her, feeling aggrieved. Skyler remembered that the girl's name was Wendy, sitting beside her all day, they never exchanged a word. "Wipe it off, it looks terrible." Wendy said coolly, seeing no response from Skyler, she directly stuffed the tissue into her hand. "We shouldn't cry for unworthy people." After speaking, she left as well. The classroom became much quieter, leaving Skyler standing foolishly, wiping her tears. "Don't cry for unworthy people," but Jason is worthy. It was he who gave Skyler the most unforgettable summer, the most beautiful memory in the small town. Therefore, Skyler made up her mind, she didn't want to just cry for Jason, she wanted to do more for him, because he was the one she had decided on three years ago, because he was Joshua! After a long time, the sky had gradually darkened. Jason suddenly stopped in his tracks on the path, cursing under his breath, "Damn it, I forgot it!" He immediately turned around and hurried back to the classroom, his face filled with anxiety. However, just as he was one step away from the classroom, he stopped again, his frown clearly visible. In front of him was a girl crouching down, desperately trying to link the broken hand bracelet. The girl's face revealed an incomparable sense of cherishment, but also an immense sadness. These inconspicuous strings of the bracelet, in her eyes, seemed more precious than life itself. He habitually pursed his lips and silently stepped back, leaving. The image of that slender and lonely figure lingered in his mind, piercing straight into the softest part of his heart. Closing his eyes, Jason could still vividly recall that scene: The girl, under the bright sun, lowered her head, barefoot and stubbornly crouched on the floor of the hospital room, ignoring his shouts. After a long time, she turned around, smiling contentedly and softly called out to him, "Jason, look, not a single star is missing."
