I ran off after Hunter while the others watched us, and I found him outside at the back of the building. “Hunter?” I asked softly.
“Just leave me alone,” he growled and wouldn’t turn to look at me.
“Please talk to me,” I said.
He turned to the side, and I saw tears on his cheeks, “I need to be alone,” he barely whispered the words, and I realized he was trying to contain his rage because next thing he was slamming his fist into the hard brick wall over and over again until his knuckles were dripping with blood. Cracks appeared and parts of the wall crumbled away.
I ignored the fear I felt and refused to leave him, but I didn’t try to talk, he wasn’t ready for that yet.
With each punch into the wall he growled inhumanly, “Destiny. Just. Leave. Me. Alone!” He yelled at the end and when he looked at me, I saw his eyes had bled to a bright orange with flecks of black and yellow running through them.
They truly looked like demon eyes or how I’d imagined demon eyes would look, and I realized he had completely and utterly lost control of himself.
Jake came running up to us followed by Asmodeus. Jake pulled me behind him protectively and warned me, “you should probably leave us, my brother is not in control right now and if he decides to lash out physically or with his abilities, you’ll die, make sure no one else comes nearby either or we will definitely be cleaning body parts up.”
“I’m not leaving him,” I said.
I very slowly went up to Hunter, ignoring Jake hissing for me to stop. “Ssh, Jake, he won’t hurt me.”
Jake grabbed my arm forcing me to stop and look at him. “It’s not a f*****g movie Destiny, he isn’t your typical bad boy, he is a demon, we are evil and when we are in THAT state we are at our very worst.”
I didn’t care, I didn’t believe they were evil, I couldn’t bear to see Hunter hurting so much, so I pulled myself away from Jake’s grip and carried on moving. I faintly heard Jake ask Asmodeus, “a little help…king?” He asked sarcastically.
Asmodeus with amusement in his voice replied, “no way, I want to see what happens.”
When I finally reached Hunter, I took a breath and very gently touched his shoulder, faster than I had time to think, he spun to face me.
He transformed into his wolf form in a split second, which must have been beyond agonizing and he was snarling and snapping at me.
He was even bigger than when I had first seen him change, he was the size of a horse at least and towered over me, his eyes, bright orange with flecks of black and gold running through them, looked even more ferocious in wolf form, his sharp giant fangs only adding to the fearsome look.
He wasn’t the same color of red and sandy either, now his fur was jet black with bright fiery colors of orange and yellow and I stopped breathing for a second, I realized it wasn’t the color of his fur, it was literal fire that ran along his whole body almost like an outline, it didn’t seem to burn him at all but I wouldn’t be surprised if it burnt anyone who tried to touch him. He looked both fearsome and magnificent.
I stood an inch away from him when he didn’t jump or attack me, he was still snapping and snarling though, so I was very slow and careful. I lowered myself onto my knees and bowed in front of him as a sign of respect, this beautiful beast definitely deserved respect and there was something almost regal about his wolf.
“Hunter, please, I know it’s not really anger you’re feeling, and I just want you to know that I am here for you, with you, I don’t need to speak if you don’t want me to, but I will not leave your side, I love you.”
More hesitantly and then firmly I said, “and God loves you, he will always love his children, no matter how you’ve turned out or what happened.”
Hunter snapped at me again and this time his fang caught my arm and left a long deep gash from elbow down to my wrist, I ignored the blood heavily dripping from my arm and waited.
Again, I didn’t know where the words had come from, just that I felt them and like I needed to share it with him.
After a few minutes, he turned back to his normal self. He was topless and sweating, but I noticed he still wore his sweatpants that were still intact and in perfect condition.
Hunter was on the floor with his back leaning against the wall and his head in his hands. “I can’t f*****g do this s**t anymore, why couldn’t he have just f*****g destroyed us, why keep us alive to torture for eternity!” He yelled at the end, making the other two look in shock, I figured this was the first time the other two demons had ever seen Hunter so emotional.
He kept his head in his hands, refusing to look at anyone or let anyone see his face. I didn’t know what to do, and then a man suddenly came over and kneeled in front of Hunter.
He looked ordinary enough, he had graying hair and a beard and didn’t look any taller than 5,11. I looked back at Jake and Asmodeus wondering why they had let him come over, but I was more than shocked to see them both kneeling with their heads bowed.
I had zero idea what was going on right now, was this Lucifer? Had he possessed someone? The man spoke to Hunter softly.
“My child, why are you so sad?”
Hunter looked up at the man and his eyes widened, “father?”
He quickly got to his knees, but the man stopped him from bowing. “You don’t need to kneel before me, tell me, why are you so sad?”
Hunter became somewhat angry again, “why? Is that a trick question? You cast us from heaven! You cursed us! You forgive them, but not us!”
“Sammael, you never asked for my forgiveness, you all broke my heart in a way it’s never been broken before.”
“We did ask for your forgiveness, and you refused to accept it.”
The man, or rather God as I was starting to realize, shook his head softly, “you said the words, but there was no real meaning there, you didn’t feel it in your hearts…but I see that you do now.”
“What does that mean?” Hunter asked, or should I start calling him Sammael?
“It means that, although things can never be the same, I am willing to forgive you.”
“Never be the same?” Jake was the one who spoke and God turned to face him.
“It’s been a very long time, hell has changed you.” He turned back to Hunter when he added, “I heard you, and you are right, I could have just destroyed you all like you never existed, but I was selfish, I loved you too much that I couldn’t bear a place where you didn’t exist and yet what you did couldn’t go unpunished.”
He gently guided Jake so that he was beside Hunter, and then he surprised Asmodeus who had been silent the whole time, gesturing for him to join the brothers.
When they were all stood together, he addressed them all. “As I mentioned, hell has changed you, you’ll never be able to be the innocent and pure angels you once were, and let’s be honest, I doubt any of you would want to, that’s the reason you chose to follow Lucifer, isn’t it? You grew bored.”
He smiled when he said it so that they knew he wasn’t saying it out of anger or upset. “I see you have a new friend who’s touched your hearts in a way no one else has been able to.”
He turned to me and I blushed so hard I actually wanted to pass out, God was looking at me right now, like full on at me and it felt so surreal. All three fallen angels looked at me too.
I was so thankful when God drew their attention back to him. “I suppose Destiny has touched my heart too, I’ve decided if any of my fallen children want to come back to me, to feel true remorse in their hearts, then I shall forgive them and give them a second chance…but it will only be a second chance, never again will I offer this if you decide to betray me again.”
His voice was so firm with the last sentence that I felt the same fear all brothers were feeling at those words, it wasn’t evil, but it was how a father would talk to his children when they had been naughty, that fear you felt as a child when they were telling you off.
Jake fell to his knees and with his head bowed whispered, “I’m so sorry, I wish I had never hurt you or listened to Lucifer, I truly am.”
He smiled at Jake, “I know you are Kariel.”
So that was Jake’s real name.
Jake wasn’t finished and carried on, “but I don’t think I can ever go back to being a perfect sinless Angel, I wish I could.”
God got onto his knees in front of Jake so that they were eye level. “I know that too, son, you always were weak when it came to the temptations of lustful desires.” God smiled when he said it, not judging Jake as he said it.
“You were one of my favourite watcher angels, you always connected with humans so easily, and they loved you for it.”
I stood there stunned, holy crap, so Jake wasn’t just some random incubus demon, he was one of the watcher angels that had fallen for having s*x with mortals when they were only meant to watch and look after them. That meant he was more powerful than I had thought.
God stood back up, bringing Jake with him and addressed them all again. “As I mentioned, I am aware things can never go back to what they were, you are too different now, you can stay as demons and keep your powers given by Lucifer, but I will allow you entrance into heaven, you may come and go as you please, but hell will still be your home.”
They all looked in awe and excitement when he had mentioned being allowed back into heaven, but they didn’t look happy when he said hell would still be their home.
God seemed to know what they were thinking because he carried on, “I know it’s not ideal with Lucifer there,” looking at Hunter he said, “but I also know heaven is no place for you to stay, a part of you will always crave and enjoy torturing Sammael,” to the other two he said, “and you two will always enjoy lustful and carnal pleasures that heaven cannot offer you.”
Hunter interrupted him, “I don’t enjoy torture.”
God smiled at him knowingly, “yes you do, it’s the forced intercourse you do not enjoy doing. Help me and your brothers above to stop Lucifer from what he is trying to do, and I will make sure you do not suffer at his hands for it, we shall lock him away, I will create a new place for him, and, Sammael, you will rule hell and decide what happens there.”
“What! I can’t rule hell,” Hunter replied in shock.
God put a hand on his shoulder, “yes you can, and you shall, you will make it a more bearable place for your brothers I am sure.”
They all agreed to help God stop Lucifer, and I remembered something as God was about to leave. “Wait! What about Beezlebub, bring him here.”
God looked at me, and I blushed, I didn’t feel worthy of him looking upon me, but he didn’t seem to be thinking that with that fatherly smile. “Beezlebub? I doubt he would wish to help or return to me, he was always as wrathful and angry as Lucifer.”
I shook my head, “no, he broke down, I’ve never seen anyone so heartbroken or cry as hard as he did for you.”
God actually frowned at that in surprise, and Asmodeus disappeared and reappeared with someone in seconds. This demon was beautiful as they all were, flawless sculpted face, jet black short curly hair and full lips with ice blue eyes that were mixed with ice blue turquoise if that was even a thing? With flecks of ice green running through them. He was built like a warrior like the rest of them and the way he dropped to his knees as soon as he saw God, I knew, I just knew it was Beezelbub.
“God!” he cried, it was all he could say.
