Jane's POV
The name felt heavy like a coat that didn’t belong to me. I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t even understand it, not after everything that had just happened. Not after the claws, the fangs and the shift.
“But that’s who you are,” he said.
“I’m Jane,” I shot back firmly. “That’s who I’ve been. Everything I’ve done so far… I did it as Jane.”
He shook his head slightly, disagreeing, but he didn’t interrupt, and that annoyed me even more.
“If you came here looking for Lyra, then you’re lost,” I continued. “And if you think I’ll suddenly become Lyra for you… you’re wrong.”
“I know it’s a lot,” he said, his voice softer now. “I know it’s too much to handle. But I’m here now. I’m here to help you. I’m here to guide you through this. I’ll be the light to your path…”
