Chapter II

979 Words
Poppy wasn’t really thinking of going home that day, instead she went into the nearest park where she and Charles went on their first date. She reminisced all their happy memories together.   It was indeed happy; they were happy, and they were in love. That’s why she was hurt deeply when she found out about their betrayal and again, she broke into tears.   She walked and walked while crying until she barely see the path she’s taking because of her tears clouding her sight. She was bawling her eyes out when her phone rang abruptly forcing her to stop crying, wipe her tears off and see whose calling her now. As expected, it was Nicole, her best friend.   “H-Hello?” Poppy answered trying to sound okay.   “Poppy! Did you see Hannah’s post on social media today? It was her and your boyfriend, Charles! They announced that they are now going out! What is this? Have you broken up? When? Is it because of that b***h?” Nicole said in a hurry. “Are you okay?”   Poppy breathe in before speaking again. “Yes. I know. I mean – we broke up just a few minutes ago. But yes, I know about them.” She sounded sad.   “I’m sorry, I’m not there to comfort you, Pops.” Nicole was sad as well.   She knew how much Poppy was devoted to Charles since the day they officially got together. At first, she was against the relationship because for her, Charles isn’t trustworthy and looks like a playboy. And when she finally was able to accept Charles since their relationship was going steady, he betrayed her with that b***h Hannah.   “I’m okay Nic. Aren’t you with George right now?” Poppy tried to change the subject. She knows Nicole. She will do anything to make them suffer, but she doesn’t want to make her do that. It’s a waste of time.   “Yes, but it’s okay. He said that I should call you and check if you’re doing okay.” Nicole explained. “He’s worried as well. He can’t believe Charles betrayed you.”   “Please tell your fiancé I’m doing fine. Let’s talk again some time.”   “Okay, Pops. I’ll visit you soon.”   Thanks to Nicole’s call, Poppy felt a lot better than earlier, but not that long. Two familiar figures can be seen making out in a not-so-far bench from where Poppy is standing. She was right. It was Charles and Hannah being so sweet, cuddling and kissing each other despite being in a public area. Once again, Poppy’s heart was torn into pieces.   So, after Charles went to meet me and break up with me, Hannah was waiting for him here all this time, she thought.   Due to her rage, Poppy was ready to confront the two, but a hand grabbed her from behind that made her stop from what she was planning to do. She was annoyed. Who the hell would stop her this time?   She looked back and what she saw was a tall figure with perfectly toned body and a familiar deep husky voice that said, “Don’t.” It was the same person as the one from the café earlier, Oliver Smith.   This man pops out anywhere anytime!   “You’re here… again… Mr. Smith.”   “That was the third time today.” His eyebrows formed a frown.   “I don’t understand what you are talking right now –”   “I thought, you’re going home. Why are you here?” He cut her off.   “None of your business.” Poppy was irritated. Finally, she got the chance to confront those two, but this man appeared out of nowhere and stopped her.   Oliver saw what Poppy just saw earlier and thought she would be hurt even more if she didn’t stop her from what she was planning of doing. Thinking of that possibility even made him decide to stop her and seeing her like this, now made him angry as well.   “You want revenge? I’ll do it for you.” Oliver let go of her hand and started to walk to where Charles and Hannah were. Poppy was nervous of what he might do, so she tried to fasten her pace but to no avail as he walked with long strides.   In a split of a second, Poppy saw Oliver swing his hand out and landed a hit on Charles’ face. She was petrified.   So, this was what he meant by revenge?   “Who are you? Why did you punch my boyfriend?” Hannah shouted that everybody whose there in the park turn their heads over to where the source was.   Poppy was standing a few steps from the three of them when Hannah caught a glimpse of her. At first, she was shocked. She looked at the man in front of her and then looked at Poppy again. She whispered something to Charles and finally, he looked at her direction as she rushed closer to Oliver to stop him from punching him again.   “So, are you dating her?” Charles looked at Oliver in a disgusting way. “Or do you like her?” He smirked. “You’re just wasting your time, man. She won’t give it even if you beg her.”   Poppy’s face turned red out of anger.   “So, this is the reason why you broke up with her and hooked up with an ugly b***h?” Oliver finally said something.   “W-What?” Hannah butted in. “Who you’re calling an ‘ugly b***h’?”   “It’s not her loss i***t, it’s yours. Don’t let me see you – even your shadow – near Poppy again. It won’t just be a punch next time.” Oliver warned. His deep blue eyes beamed with anger and disgust. Charles and Hannah were petrified.   Poppy, on the other hand, was double shocked. First, her boss punched her ex-boyfriend, as a revenge for her. Second, her boss was holding her hand tightly as they walked towards the park’s exit where his car was parked.   He opened the passenger door and gently guided Poppy to get into the car, covering her head. He then sat on the driver’s seat and help Poppy fastened the seat belt. His face was so close to Poppy’s that she tried to avoid it.   Bang!
