Gideon Justiceborn stood by the door. He had just served in the Knight Academy for just a year now. He could remember the first day he was plucked from his village to join the prestigious White Knight army far beyond the mountains. Boys, when they are up to the age of nineteen, are taken from their parents to serve as protectors of the Realm. He had always dreamed of being a knight. He could still remember vividly. He remembered running through the fields of his village, with a wooden stick gripped, looking like a sword, chasing each other, imitating the knight they admired and the glory that comes with it. The joy of those carefree days kept echoing in his mind. He lost his father at a young age, but had his mother who took good care of him. She showered him with so much care and love. His first month at the knight's academy was not how he imagined it to be. He had to work harder to pass the test. They had to climb mountains without food and water. On some occasions they lost more men. Those who passed the test were recruited into the knight army while others were sent back to their families. But he endured. “Daydreaming loser?” Jareth Holyblade's voice snapped him off his thoughts. Gideon hated Jared and his friends. He was not as strong and skillful as Jared. He was always winning the heart of everyone. He was top in his training class. Gideon turned to Jareth and his friends, who were laughing at him. They bullied younger cadets, beating them up to prove how powerful they are. He had tried standing up to Jared but was beaten by them so badly. They hated him too, claiming that he passed the test because Lord Roderic Stonewall, leader of the knight clan, always had his back. He remembered many times when he addressed them, making him stand out, telling everyone that he had the heart of a soldier. “I think he is saying his last prayer before he is killed in battle. " He won't last long in battle,” another said, causing others to laugh loudly. Gideon turned away, staring in the opposite direction, acting like he wasn't listening to them. “You should have thought about your family before you chose this part,” Jareth taunted. “Lord Roderic won't save you at the battlefield, you should enjoy life while it lasts.” They tried forcing him to confront them, so that they would have a good reason to beat him up. But still he ignored them, knowing what this would result in. They were surprised when he passed the test. He always mocked his village because it was a poor town with little means of survival. “What are you boys doing here?”, a commanding voice cut through the tension, causing the atmosphere to turn cold and dry. They turned to the dark image standing at the door. It walked towards them, Lord Roderic emerged from the door, causing Jared and his friends to shiver in fear. They had been warned about bullying other students. “Sorry Lord Roderic, we were only passing by, we were not doing anything,” Jareth said with fear. Lord Roderic ignored him and turned to Gideon, who was standing at the far end of the door. “Are you okay?” he asked, his face keeping focused on Gideon. Gideon nodded without saying a word in reply. Roderic turned toward Jared and his friend. “Leave,” he ordered. They scrambled away, clearly terrified by Lord Roderic's presence. Once they were gone, Lord Roderic turned back to Gideon, his expression softening. “They are getting worse each day. " I wonder what I should do.” Lord Roderic spoke loudly with disappointment. “Actually, they did nothing wrong, they were just passing.” he said, noticing that the Lord was not looking happy. “Am I in trouble?” Gideon wondered why he told him to stay back. He was scared that this was one of his ways of boring him with historical tales, which he had heard countless times. Lord Roderic walked past him. Gideon recognized what that silence meant. He followed him behind. They walked to his study room. No knight was allowed into his studies; it was a place meant only for the leaders of the clan. This was a huge privilege for Gideon. He knew Jared and his friends would be jealous if they found out about it. The room was largely filled with ancient books and other artifacts, but his eyes fell on a painting hanging on the wall, it had a drawing of a sword on it. Lord Roderic noticed how he was staring at it. “That is the sword of the great emperor, Aerioneth Windstrider Gideon was taught about him during his history class at the knight's academy, but he was finding it hard to believe that all he thought was true. “The dragon sword?” he said, remembering its name from what he was told. “It is the sword that was used to kill demons and monsters, only wielded by the emperor himself and any who came through his bloodline.” Before he could reply, they were distracted by a noise coming from outside the room. It noise sounded like a war cry, Gideon became scared, when the sound was followed by a clashing of swords. “What is happening?” he asked. “What's that noise?” Lord Roderic asked, one of the guards who ran into the room. “My Lord, we are under attack,” he said in a trembling voice. Lord Roderic drew his sword as he made his way outside to the top of the tower along with other knights. Gideon stood behind him. They were surprised at what they saw. They were strange creatures which were bigger than any human with large wings like bats, which enabled them to fly. In their hands were large blades which could cut through any armor. “Fight for your clan and people, send this dark creature back to where they came from,” Lord Roderic shouted as they run to fight the creatures. Gideon hadn't killed a human before, so killing a creature that was larger than a human was not going to be easy. His eyes fell on the bodies on the ground. They lost their lives while fighting. One of the creatures that looked like an orc ran towards him. He was scared, he stood with his sword shaking on his shivering palm, it tried jump on him but he struck it down, he looked surprised what was happening he hadn't felt this much strength before. “What is happening to me?” He asked. It was like a new Spirit just entered inside him. He saw another trying to strike Lord Roderic on the back without him noticing, he ran towards it and cut off it head the blood splash all over the place, everyone were amazed how he did that. The creatures seeing that they could not able to defeat them all fled for their life. “You better run,” Lord Roderic yelled, they rasied their sword as a sign of victory. Everyone kept Wondering where the dark creatures came from. Lord Roderic ordered everyone to search those creatures that were slained for clue that would led the to the Mastermind. Immediately one of the knight took out a seal fromm one of the dark creatures. “I found something my Lord,” he rushed to give it Lord Roderic who stood few steps from the scene, while watching his men search. He gave it to him it was an old seal, Immediately Lord Roderic saw it his eyes widened in grief. “oh no he is back” he said. His words sounded stranged to Gideon he did not understand who he was talking about. “Who my Lord”. He asked back looking curious. “The dark lord”.
