Elsie is typing a legal document to send to a client. It is a hot morning, and the window of her office is wide open. The sky is blue, there is sunshine in abundance, and she is aware of the sound of a bus moving in the street below. The distinctive whine of the bus engine is something she has come to identify, mainly from working here, in this office, during the spring and summer months. She looks up for a moment, pausing before finishing the letter and sees a small grey bird alight on the window-sill. As she stares at the small bird, mesmerized by it for a few seconds, the creature sings out two plaintive notes and flies off as fast as it arrived. She continues to type and finishes the letter.
