A large black Ford V8 Pilot draws up to the kerb outside Islington Town Hall. Elsie steps out, followed by her Uncle James. She has not seen much of her uncle since she was a small girl, apart from at her father’s funeral. Today, she reflects, it is a much happier occasion. James and his sister-in-law, Grace, do not get along particularly well but he has come up trumps for Elsie on this, the occasion of her wedding. He has provided this rather posh car, is driving her to and from the wedding in it and has insisted on providing a large wedding cake, to be consumed later.
