Chapter 6Lavinia peered up at the ladder set against the tower. It loomed so tall it brushed the vaulted roof of the sky, but she would not be daunted. This was the moment she had trained for all her days. Every instant sparring with her birth father, with Turnus and Camilla, had led her here. Her shield and spear were strapped to her back and her sword buckled to her side, for she would need her hands free to climb. Every instant on the ladder would leave her vulnerable to arrows. She placed her foot onto the lowest rung and pulled herself upward.
