A girl with dark tangled curls and a smile he could only answer with a smile. She had been at his side since his earliest days, had loved him before either of them knew what that meant. But this could not be her. His Kreusa had perished in the fire of the gods. Hera’s flame had consumed her body, inside and out. And he had stood there, helpless as any other mortal, his love reduced to ash. Anger rose within him. What cretinous sprite would dare mimic her appearance? This is a trick. ‘No, Aeneas.
