Chapter 25The oil lamp’s flame was steady in the dark. Julos held it as he paced back and forth. His head was buzzing and he felt too unsettled for sleep. Already he had strapped on the silver bow. The one celestial arrow remaining lay nestled among the shafts of ash. Julos felt no regret about using a silver arrow to save Lavinia from his father. He raised a hand to the bruise on his face, throbbing and pulsing. It smarted all right, but knowing the blow had come from his own dad hurt worse. Did he deserve it? The very thought made his face crumple, but he shook his head against it. Nobody deserved to be beaten for doing the right thing. What was wrong with his father, that he could not see that? The anger swelled inside him like molten iron, only to harden into guilt. Feeling this way
