At the hospital, Dominick had just managed to coax Evelyn to sleep when a nurse hurried over and rushed him toward the emergency operating floor.
"Mr. Swanson, your mother was hit by something heavy. She has severe pelvic fractures. Some of the broken bones have damaged nearby blood vessels and internal organs. She's still bleeding. She needs emergency surgery right away. Without it, she might not survive. And even if she does... There's a high chance she could lose the use of her legs."
She said quickly as they stepped into the elevator. The elevator began to descend.
"This kind of reconstruction is extremely delicate. In our hospital, only two surgeons are confident enough to handle it. Dr. Shannon is one of them, but she's overseas leading a medical conference."
