It was still a little early when they got to the club, having only been a half hour drive. Loren and Eric got out, and let valet take the car to park it. Heading inside, they each fist bumped the bouncer at the door. It was common for them to appear at the club on the weekend if Loren did not have an important ‘family thing’ to attend.
Upon entering there were two sets of stairs, a short flight down to the barroom, a longer flight that ascended to the dance floor. It was a simple solution to keep teens away from the bar, drunks away from teens, and still serve both age ranges. The bouncer at the door of the club, and then a bouncer at the doors at the end of each flight of stairs, were the system that kept drunks out of the dance floor and teens out of the bar.
Loren and Eric went upstairs to the dance floor. Once there, they made their way to a couch that sat in an alcove of the wall. The dance floor had a few small groups of teens, dancing to whatever was currently on the radio. The live DJ did not come in until later, early evening usually. It was currently barely noon.
Being regulars, and the boss’s son, helped. The drink station attendants knew them and were usually prepared for them. It was a little early in the day, so there were only two attendants, but that did not stop one of them from moving over to check on Loren and Eric.
Ginny, one of the attendants, walked over to the boys and smiled brightly. It was a real smile, instead of a ‘work smile.’
“Hey boys. How’s it going?” She was obviously chewing gum. “Two lemon tea twists?”
Eric nodded while Loren smiled and looked Ginny over. He always flirted with her, but at the end of the day, they were just good acquaintances. Not that she was not pretty, he just had another girl in mind.
“Yes, dear. Can I get that to come with your number?”
“Everytime, boy. I tell you that my number comes with an age restriction.”
“Hey, I’m eighteen now. I’m legal.” Loren grinned and gave a wink.
Ginny laughed and turned to walk away. “You’ll always be too young.”
Eric punched Loren in the bicep, lightly but enough force to make him pull away. Laughing, Loren held his hands up in submission. “Okay, okay, I know. Don’t tease the staff.”
“Thanks.” Eric nodded.
It did not take long for Ginny to bring their drinks, and Loren could not help but to flirt again. The young men talked about a lot of things while they sipped their lemon tea twists. They talked about school, they talked about crushes, but the thing they talked the longest about was cars. The topic expanded from Eric’s car to the car Loren wanted.
As their conversation kept on, Ginny continued bringing them teas. The club slowly filled with more teens as the day went on. The more people, the louder it got, the less Eric and Loren could hear each other.
“Want to go to the office?!” Eric had to raise his voice to be heard.
Rather than holler back, Loren nodded and grabbed his tea and got up, ready to follow his friend.
Eric got up, taking his drink in hand, he led the way around the outside of the dance floor. He came to one of the many large curtains that decorated the walls. Most were decorations, this one blocked the door to the office. Eric opened the door and waited for Loren to enter before following him in.
The two friends had sat on a couch, watching the security cameras, making up conversations going on between bar patrons. This lasted about a half an hour before they started getting bored. Eric got up and went to the desk. He got a key out of the slim top drawer, then turned to a filing cabinet. Unlocking the bottom drawer, he pulled out a bottle of tequila and a bottle of vodka.
“We could always spice up our teas.” Eric grinned at Loren.
“H**l yeah. Let’s do that.” Loren figured they would just get a buzz so they could enjoy making stupid jokes at the security feeds.
Eric brought the two bottles over to the couch and sat them down on the floor. He went to the door and exited the room. He went and got two more lemon tea twists from Ginny before returning to the office.
Once back with the fresh drinks, Eric set them on the side table. Picking up the bottle of vodka, he poured a little in each drink, then repeated with the tequila. Once he settled the bottles back on the floor, he handed Loren one of the glasses of lemon tea.
They continued on making fun of things going on in the bar, sipping their drinks all along. This continued until their drinks were half finished, when Eric added a bit more of the tequila and vodka to their glasses. They knew very little about drinking, so they were not really aware of what was too much.
It did not take long for the two young men to be drunk. Of course, due to Loren’s increased stamina, he outlasted Eric. The younger teen was dosing on the arm of the couch, drooling slightly. Loren watched him, finishing his drink that no longer resembled tea.
Setting his glass down, Loren reached over to pat Eric’s leg. When there was no response, he sighed, emotions mixed of happiness and sadness.
“I wish I could tell you everything, dude.” Loren rubbed his nose, worried he might be dripping. Carleigh always teased him of being like a puppy with a wet nose when he was not feeling good. “Wish I could tell you about my family, about the Pack Houses…”
He stared at Eric, waiting for any response. When there was no movement other than light snores, Loren got a devious look on his face. If Eric was that drunk, he would probably remember nothing of the evening. Loren felt a freedom that he had not felt around a human before.
“So, the county of Brookside is guarded by three packs.” Loren started, “there is the Morningbrooke Pack, the Darkstone Pack, and the Autumn Wood Pack.”
Getting comfortable, legs stretched out long, he continued to watch Eric sleep.
“We’re werewolves. Not really like ‘full moon transforming monsters’ like in the movies… More like we’re born with two spirits. Our human and our wolf.” Zeala growled at Loren for spilling family secrets.
“Morningbrooke is the leading pack in the area, with Autumn Wood and Darkstone supporting us in defending the county. Oh yeah, I’m in the Morningbrooke Pack.” Loren’s voice faded off as Eric’s hand moved some.
After a moment, Loren continued. He explained how a werewolf can transform into their beast form once they have come of age and their bodies can handle the power of letting the wolf take over.
Then Loren covered the topic of the packs having territories. He explained the boundaries, and the little overlap in certain areas. Especially their high school, being in both Morningbrooke and Darkstone territory.
Loren covered the ranks of Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. That Alphas were in charge, Betas were the second in command, and Gammas were just packmates. He talked about witches in the packs, and that they were typically human instead of werewolves. He mentioned Omega in passing, but only stating he’d heard of it, not that he really knew anything about it.
Loren waited what he thought was a few minutes, but was probably more like a half an hour, before he decided to continue. “Right now, I’m dealing with some major s**t. Like crisis level s**t.”
Zeala huffed before settling. It was too late to really stop Loren, and he was not listening anyway.
“So, our wolves have soul mates and the human doesn’t really matter that much in deciding them. It is fate or something like that… but the problem is Zeala, my wolf, seems to be mates with the wolf of another…” Loren groaned, “it’s worse saying it out loud… but Zeala’s mate is Pelian, the wolf of another guy.”
Fading out again, Loren closed his eyes and let his head rest back on the couch. He whined a little about his head feeling funny. It did not take long before he started to fall asleep.
